Ubucon Europe 2019 announcement and Call For Papers

Diogo Miguel Constantino Dos Santos (diogoconstantino) gives notice of the Ubucon Europe 2019 event, to be held from the 10th to the 13th of October in Sintra, Portugal. The call is opened for submission of papers and proposals promoting free software in general and Ubuntu, in all its flavours, in particular. Diogo provides links to the event's website and the Papers submission website and advises the IT structure is available to aid others in setting up similar events.

Eric Rescorla writes of the recent Firefox issue where add-ons stopped working. Eric reports its cause, and the subsequent repair. Detail is given on the cause of the problem and how Mozilla worked hard providing a quick solution. We are advised that steps are being taken to insure such does not happen again.

Microsoft Put a Real Linux Kernel inside Windows 10

Joey Sneddon reports on the updated Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) as unveiled at the Microsoft Build 2019 conference. Joey gives details, screenshots, and videos of the linux kernel within Windows. For ubuntu support Joey relates from Stephan Fabel, Director of Product at Canonical, “Collaboration with Microsoft enables us to certify Ubuntu on WSL, including Docker containers, Kubernetes, and snaps”. WSL2 is compatible with the new Windows Terminal app, available through source code, that will be in the  Microsoft Store shortly.

Ubuntu 19.10 to Be Dubbed "Eoan Ermine," Arrives on October 17th

Marius Nestor tells us that Ubuntu 19.10 has been fully named as "Eoan Ermine", with some information about what an Ermine is. We are told 19.10’s expected release date is 17 October 2019.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 Released for Ubuntu Phones with Refreshed Look, Improvements

Marius Nestor updates us on the latest OTA-9 release for Ubuntu Touch devices. We are told the maintenance release includes a refreshed look, improvements for the Nexus 5 camera, and more, with rollout completing on 12 May 2019. A link is provided to the release announcement.
