ROSCon Japan 2019!
Rhys Davies writes that "ROSCon Japan 2019 was a resounding success." The event Starts with the keynote speech of building autonomous vehicles and robots safely. IBM and Canonical work together in financial services
Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols mentions that Red Hat is still a separate entity from IBM and IBM's work with Canonical is evidence of that. Steven tells us of a joint event held by Canonical's Mark Shuttleworth and IBM's Ross Mauri, telling attendees of the advantages of running financial services on cloud-based mainframes based Ubuntu systems, with real life examples. The article exemplifies the collaboration with the flexibility of Ubuntu in the cloud and the new style of DevOps within such active projects as Z, LinuxOne, Power, and IBM Cloud.

Xfce's xfce4-panel Says Farewell To GTK2 Support
Michael Larabel reports that following Xfce 4.14's release last month, old remnants of GTK2 support are being removed. With GTK2 support now gone, GTK2 plug-ins will no longer function. Development for 4.16 is underway with release expected in 2020.

Canonical Outs Major Linux Kernel Security Patch for Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04 LTS
Marius Nestor informs us of a new security update fixing two vulnerabilities in the 4.15 kernel. Providing details of the fixes included and CVEs addressed, and plenty of links, impacted users are urged to upgrade their system asap.

Marius Nestor updates us on a tweet from UBport's Marius Gripsgard showing another groundbreaking advancement for Ubuntu Touch. We are told Ubuntu Touch has been ported to PINE64's PinePhone. Video and screenshots are included, as well as details and links to the PinePhone.
Canonical Releases Major Kernel Security Update for Ubuntu 19.04 and 18.04 LTS
We are told by Marius Nestor, that Canonical have released major security updates for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS & 19.04, fixing vulnerabilities in the 5.0 kernel. Users of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS using the HWE kernel, or Ubuntu 19.04 are urged to upgrade asap.
Ubuntu Desktop ZFS Install Support Lands In Ubiquity Installer
Michael Larabel reports that the experimental ZFS root file-system install support has been merged into the Ubuntu desktop "Ubiquity" installer for the 19.10 release. While EXT4 remains the default Ubuntu file system, users are now able to deploy a root ZFS file-system. Michael advises, however, it is still a work-in-progress.
