General Community News

Announcing Ubuntu’s move to Libera Chat

José Antonio Rey reminds us of the decision made by the Ubuntu IRC Counci supported by the Community Council, to move to Libera Chat. José outlines how freenode believed the redirect notices placed in many Ubuntu channel topics were, in freenode's opinion, outside their policy; thus they used this to take over Ubuntu channels where the notices existed. This notice from the Ubuntu Community Council alerts users that Ubuntu is moving to Libera Chat (with numerous supportive links provided).

2021 IRC Council Election Results

rww tells us the 2021 IRC Council election has concluded with C de-Avillez (hggdh), Seth Arnold (sarnold), and Unit 193 (Unit193) being elected. With all the changes currently occurring, sarnold has been granted permissions early, with outgoing IRCC members (rww, el, Tm_T) losing permissions on 2021-06-01.

Disabling snap Autorefresh

Alan Pope combines the various details he has previously provided in various places in controlling snap updates in this summary piece. Also this is a brief introduction of what snaps are, and how they are updated. Alan then provides some user’s reasons for issues with the chosen decisions. First hint provided is how to download and install a snap (without any updates), next is deferring updates or when metered connection is detected and more. Finally Alan lets us know of three things he does on his own systems.

Comment editing is now possible

Thiago F. Pappacena tells us this was a feature request dating back to 2007, we are told priorities have finally allowed this change to occur. We can now edit our comments on Launchpad answers, bug and merge proposals. We are told how to use it, and if we make an error and introduce sensitive detail into the history; currently it needs to be removed via API (but remove button is coming).
