Igor Ljubuncic, in explaining the snap formatting, extols the conversion to the new modular design, and relates some of the "technical challenges that need to be addressed". New Ubuntu Linux Kernel Security Updates Fix 9 Vulnerabilities, Patch Now

Marius Nestor alerts us to Canonical's Ubuntu Kernel team's release of security fixes for Ubuntu 21.10, Ubuntu 21.04, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 16.04 & 14.04 ESM. We are given the CVEs fixed, the release(s) impacted, and how attackers could take advantage of our systems if left unpatched. Links are provided, and we're advised to update our systems asap, and reboot. We are reminded this maybe the last kernel update for Ubuntu 21.04 as it's nearing its end of life.

KDE Gear 21.12 Gets First Point Release, Improves Dolphin, Kdenlive, and Many Other Apps

Marius Nestor tells us the KDE Project has released KDE Gear 21.12.1. We are told it includes fixes to the Dolphin file manager, Ark archive manager, Gwenview image viewer, and Elisa music player. Numerous others received fixes too, including Kdenlive video editor, making it worth the upgrade. A link to the full changelog is included.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-21 Released with Redesigned Greeter, Various Improvements

Marius Nestor reports that the UBports Foundation has released OTA-21 for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system. We are told it's still based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. It contains many fixes and improvements, highlights being a redesigned greeter (PIN/password entry screen), new Tamil font, new magnetometer and compass plugin, and more. We are also told the UBports Foundation has improved the installer for Halium 10 devices, and continues the port of Ubuntu Touch to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Linux 5.17 To Bring AMD P-State, Many AMD & Intel Improvements, New Optimizations

Michael Larabel provides a look forward to the enhancements within the Linux 5.17 release. Among the many features expected, Michael particularly notes: new AMD and Intel hardware support, Arm improvements, Apple M1 bring-up, network optimizations, and hardware driver works. Further is presented a "key material" list that is expected for the Linux 5.17 merge window.

KDE Frameworks 5.90 Arrives with More Improvements for Your Favorite KDE Apps

Marius Nestor notes that there are 181 changes in this monthly update. He annotates several of these changes that incorporate improvements to pointer devices, changes to the Plasma Wayland session/desktop, as well as improvements to the Dolphin file manager. A link is provided to the release announcement that details "what exactly was fixed, changed or removed".
