Subiquity 22.04.2 has been released to stable

Dan Bungert on behalf of the Ubuntu Server team reports the release of Subiquity 22.04.2 to the snap stable channel. It will be offered to most users during installation though Dan notes Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will still be offered the prior (22.02.2) version. The new 22.04.2 version is the version found on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. A list of what has changed is provided, and a link to the release notes on Github.

Call for testing: ubuntu-frame-osk 38-squeekboard-v1.17.1

Alan Griffiths makes a call for testing of ubuntu-frame-osk release 38-squeekboard-v1.17.1. The release features the updated Squeekboard version with other minor fixes. The upgrade should not impact existing usage, with the commands provided to install the release candidate.

"The Linux App Summit (LAS) brings the global Linux community together to learn, collaborate, and help grow the Linux application ecosystem. Through talks, panels, and Q&A sessions, we encourage attendees to share ideas, make connections, and join our goal of building a common app ecosystem." We are told it'll be held virtually and in-person in Rovereto, Italy, with details provided including how to register and the keynote speaker.

Ubuntu Kylin 22.04 LTS officially released - UKUI 3.1 starts a new experience!

We are reminded Ubuntu Kylin 22.04 LTS has been officially released with three years of supported life, and compared with prior releases; it contains new functions that display remaining charging times, complex touch gestures and more. A video and series of screenshots highlight some of the looks of the new UKUI 3.1 desktop environment. This article also outlines how existing users of Ubuntu 20.04 Pro SP1 can upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

Many Internet-Exposed Servers Affected by Exploited Redis Vulnerability

Ionut Arghire alerts us that "2,000 internet-exposed Linux servers appear to be impacted by a Redis vulnerability" tracked as CVE-2022-0543. Ionut reminds us Debian & Ubuntu were patched for this issue on 18 February 2022, and finishes with Rapid7's advice that "it's probably reasonable to bump the priority of fixing this vulnerability".

Installation and Review of Lubuntu [Lightweight Distro]

Jesse Afolabi suggests that if we're in the market for a new OS, why not give Lubuntu a try. Highlighting that it's light, some details of what is Lubuntu are provided. Ubuntu Revives Its Iconic ‘Developer Summit’ — With a Twist

Joey Sneddon tells us "Ubuntu is reviving an in-person event" being the Ubuntu Summit to be held this autumn in a to-be-announced location. We are reminded Canonical is investing heavily in community outreach, and told it 'sounds like' it'll be in accord to the original Ubuntu Developer Summit. With some details of the history, including of UbuCon, we are told to watch and we'll get more details when they come available.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Changes Default For NVIDIA Driver Back To Using X.Org Rather Than Wayland

Michael Larabel reminds us Ubuntu 22.04 LTS changed the default from X.Org to Wayland when NVIDIA's driver was in use back in March (making it the same as Intel or Radeon graphics), however that change was reverted just prior to release using SRU. Michael expresses the view that NVIDIA using Wayland was a good thing, though stopped by NVIDIA requesting Ubuntu/Canonical change back to X.Org. Details of the GDM package change uploaded was too late for inclusion for the ISO, but available as an update, are included.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Gets First Kernel Security Update, Three Vulnerabilities Patched

Marius Nestor alerts us to Canonical publishing linux kernel security updates for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS addressing three security vulnerabilities. In giving the CVE details: what unpatched systems that can be exploited, plus who discovered the flaw, we are told the patched kernel version. We are advised to upgrade our systems as soon as possible.

KDE Plasma 5.25 Adds a Cool Customisation Feature

Joey Sneddon reminds us KDE is known for customizations, before telling us this week a new "auto accent" feature will be included in KDE Plasma 5.25 that Joey compares with Android's "Material You" feature.

KDE Releases Plasma Mobile Gear 22.04 with Lots of Goodies for Linux Phone Users

A New Dynamic Wallpaper Maker for GNOME 42

Joey Sneddon writes that this GTK4 app makes it "super easy to create your own dynamic wallpapers to use in GNOME 42". Giving us some details on Dark/Light, and "duo" wallpapers, we are told how we can use this web in selecting two wallpaper images & converting them into a dynamic wallpaper that can be selected in the Appearance panel. Screenshots are provided to help us understand, with the app available from Flathub, or Flatpak build via Github.

Open-Source R600g Driver For Old AMD GPUs Is Seeing New Activity To Improve GPU Compute

Michael Larabel relates the efforts within the open-source community developers that continue support for legacy display drivers. Noted here are works directed to R600g improvements. As well, other improvements for pre-GCN AMD GPUs are discussed leading to the supposition of greater performance than when the drivers were first released.

Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen4 Announced With Intel Alder Lake, RTX 30 Graphics
