Kernels for 22.04.1 Point Release

Kleber Souza reminds us the first point release of Ubuntu 22.04 is expected on 4 August 2022. Kleber provides several details: the kernel timeline for this release - ie. dates for last day for kernel commits, kernel preparation week, bug verification/regression testing, and release dates for -updates. A reminder is made to submit fixes via mailing-list before the cut-off date of 6 July 2022.

KDE Releases Plasma Mobile Gear 22.06 for Linux Phones, Here’s What’s New

Marius Nestor tells us the KDE Project has released Plasma Mobile Gear 22.06 with "improvements to core components and apps". We are walked through some specific improvements, given a link to the release notes for more details, and told to watch out for it rolling out to our Linux phones or tablets.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-23 Rolls Out to All Supported Ubuntu Phones, This is What’s New

Marius Nestor reports that the UBports Foundation has released OTA-23. We are told it's still based on Ubuntu 16.04, and told of many of the highlights: such as FM Radio support, snappier backlight dimming, better Wifi, and more. Many handsets are mentioned which will benefit from this release which is currently being rolled out.

Ubuntu 22.10 (Finally) Gets an Updated Settings App

Joey Sneddon writes that development builds of Ubuntu 22.10 now have "an updated version of the GNOME Control Center"; meaning all of GNOME 42 is present. We are told "Ubuntu developers have ported over the Ubuntu-specific settings to the new app". We are shown, through many screenshots, how it looks with the "general visual revamp". Additionally we are reminded it may still change to GNOME 43 later in the cycle.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Has A Change On The Way For Systemd-OOMD Being Kill-Happy With Apps

Michael Larabel reminds us that over the last month "Ubuntu developers have been trying to figure out how to best deal with systemd-oomd" and its killing applications. We are told the developers have evaluated different options, and have "a fix on the way for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS users currently in the proposed archive". We are told it "seems to improve the user experience", with links provided for more details.

Wine 7.12 Released With Theming For Qt5 Apps, VKD3D v1.4

Michael Larabel tells us of the release of Wine 7.12. In providing us with some of the details that are found in the release, we are told there are thirteen bug fixes, "added support for theming of Windows Qt5 applications", and this release pulls in the new VKD3D 1.4m.
