Introduction

We’re preparing Kubuntu Vivid Vervet (15.04) for distribution on April 23rd, 2015. With this Beta 1 pre-release, you can see what we are trying out in preparation for our next (stable) version. We have some interesting things happening, so read on for highlights and information.

NOTE:

This is Beta 1 Release. Kubuntu Beta Releases are NOT recommended for:

  • Regular users who are not aware of pre-release issues
  • Anyone who needs a stable system
  • Anyone uncomfortable running a possibly frequently broken system
  • Anyone in a production environment with data or workflows that need to be reliable

Kubuntu Beta Releases are recommended for:

  • Regular users who want to help us test by finding, reporting, and/or fixing bugs
  • Kubuntu, KDE, and Qt developers

Getting Kubuntu 15.04 Beta 1

Upgrading from 14.10

Download a Disk Image

To upgrade to Kubuntu 15.04 pre-releases from 14.10, run kubuntu-devel-release-upgrade from a command line.
Full instructions to upgrade from 14.10.
Please note upgrade from Kubuntu Plasma5 14.10 is not supported and is unlikely to work, these users will need to reinstall.

Download a Bootable image and put it onto a DVD or USB Drive

Cutting-edge Plasma 5 is now the default

The KDE Applications 14.12.2 contains bugfixes and translation updates, stabilizing 14.12 which highlighted migrations to KDE Frameworks 5.

Development of Kubuntu 15.04, the Vivid Vervet, is ongoing and bugs are fixed every day. Before reporting bugs, please ensure your system is up to date. For verifying installation related bugs, updated disk images are available from Daily bootable images for standard PCs and laptops.
