Update for 16.04.2 point release
Upgrade from the 14.04 LTS is still problematic. Please install a fresh copy of 16.04.2 after running a backup of all your data. Download here. Adding the backports PPA will bring in the Plasma 5.8.5 bugfix upgrade. Read more about that here: http://kubuntu.org/news/plasma-5-8-5-bugfix-release-in-xenial-and-yakkety-backports-now/

To upgrade to Kubuntu 16.04 from 15.10, open Muon Update Manager, update your system and click on Upgrade. |

14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS upgrade
WARNING: LTS to LTS upgrade to Xerus is currently problematic and should not be attempted. Please install a fresh copy of 16.04 instead. To prevent messages about upgrading, change Prompt=lts to Prompt=normal or Prompt=never in the /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades file.

Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE's desktop has been rewritten to make it smoother to use while retaining the familiar setup. The fifth set of updates to Plasma 5 (current release and current bugfixes for January) is the default in this version of Kubuntu. |
KDE Applications 15.12
|
Kubuntu comes with KDE Applications 15.12 containing all your favorite apps from KDE, including Dolphin. Even more applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 but those which aren't should fit in seamlessly. |
