Greetings, I am the infamous Dr Small, wanted on 2 continents, 3 countries and 5 states :)
No. But really, I help out on Ubuntu Forums, and am on the Beginners Team that works in the Absolute Beginner Talk. I do alot of my posting there.

I have written a few bash script, and maintain my own blog here: My internet alias is Dr Small. I only go by that name on the internet, because occasionally I am the prey of a predator, so I wish him not to know my real name. The name derived from an old book, thence I took it.

http://php.8ez.com/drsmall/blog/ I run ArchLinux on my desktop and have several other machines running Linux in the household. Most notably, they running some form of Ubuntu. My server (Mycroft) currently runs Ubuntu 7.04. My personal opinion on how well the most recent versions of Ubuntu operate, is rather poor. I prefer the older versions as they seem to be more dependable, whether on not they lack a few features.

I mainly tinker around with my system and like to try out new things on it, and customize it the way I like it. My favorite applications are [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SSHHowto SSH], John, [https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SSHHowto#head-6407a98aa6275a2fc44114cbca90a76d5eb4222d Xephyr] and [https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IceWM IceWM]. My favorite distribution would be Ubuntu 7.04, as that is what I have installed, and have a tweaked IceWM setup with VistaBlack as the theme. I am a Geek that is highly interested in cryptography, security and server maintenance. Since I run my own server, I have learned alot from managing SSH to setting up Webmail. It is still an ever learning process for me. My latest tackle for security has been configuring FWKNOP (FireWall KNock OPerator) for portknocking -- Thanks to kevdog for writing the [http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=812573 Howto].
Line 12: Line 11:
[https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InternetRelayChat IRC] is another one of my favorite pastimes, because I like to sit around and chat with my friends on #ubuntuforums-beginners on irc.freenode.net and help people out. But because of my limited bandwidth for from my ISP, I have to limit IRC at times, because it is a bandwidth hog... I use GPG for signing and encrypting messages. I may not be technically inclined with it, but I do use it, and have shared the object of encryption on with my internet friends, of which we all use GPG now.

Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite fictional characters, along with "Dr Small", of whom I stole his name :) I read it in an old book, and he was the villain in the story, but I liked his personality, so I chose the name. I currently use [https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IceWM IceWM] for my Window Manager on Arch, which works quite well and I love it simplicity. Others may scorn at it, but I find it rather easy to use, well documented and simple configuration.

As much as others may disagree, I do love chatting on IRC. But due to my bandwidth restrictions, I rarely get on anymore. I try to attend the Beginners Team meetings when I can. The other instant messaging protocol that I use is Jabber, the simple and decentralized alternative to MSN.
