About Me

Mi name is Leo Arias. I'm a Computer Engineer from Costa Rica (UTC-6). I work for the QA team at Openbravo. I'm part of Red Costarricense de Software Libre. I've been an Ubuntu user since 2007. I contribute promoting, installing and giving support, organizing events, translating and helping with bugs and testing.

My involvement in Ubuntu

Through Launchpad, I've been contributing translations and answers in Spanish and Esperanto for a couple of years.

Last year I joined the bugsquad and helped triaging on the hug days and as part of the 5-a-day program. I had to pause my contributions since the beginning of this year because of my studies; but now I finished them and I plan to continue.

I've been in charge of the Costa Rica Loco team since 2008. I rebuilt the website and I've been answering questions, helping with the organization of activities, and installing Ubuntu and offering support for free to whoever requests it.

At the LoCo team we have organized a translation sprint, an answers sprint and around 5 release parties, and we have been invited to many events to talk about free software and Ubuntu.

Also, we have been part of the organization of the annual Festival Lationamericano de Software Libre (FLISoL) and Software Freedom Day (SFD) since 2007. At every FLISoL we help people to get Ubuntu in their computers, train them on the basic usage of the system, and invite them to participate on the support mailing list. At SFDs we teach about the philosophy of freedom in technology and other aspects of culture, and we give discs to the attendees with cool free software projects like Ubuntu.

Some of us have also participated in the initiatives of Software Libre Centroamérica. I attended the meetings at Nicaragua in 2009 and Costa Rica in 2010, and plan to attend the next one in El Salvador. At Nicaragua we started the Central American team, to try to work together on our projects. At Nicaragua I also met my good friends Marcelo and Diego; and together we are applying to be Ubuntu Members.

I met elopio at ECSL 2009 and i have seen how valuable he has been for the community of Central America and Costa Rica, He is a good guy, he should be accepted as a member :D! -- Diego Tejera ubuntu-pa

I met elopio in 2009. Costa Rica has a great Leader in him, he is very active and has great ideas and as a true Ubuntero always share his ideas. He should be accepted as a member mmgc84.

Leo is a great person. He lives collaboration every day and is always up to do good work for free Software. He has a very warm and calm personality combined with the right principles and willingness of giving. He is open minded and active in every corner of free Software (especially Ubuntu) in Costa Rica. IMHO he would be a great Ubuntu member. xamanu ubuntu-ni
