Who I am

My name is David Mohammed, living in the UK. I have been involved in FLOSS since Ubuntu 7.04 days. I have a masters degree in Software Engineering and work as a senior systems developer for Hewlett Packard Enterprises.

My initial career developer background is primarily C based - my opensource contributions are primarily python based via rhythmbox plugins - https://github.com/fossfreedom.

I am the project lead for the new official community flavour - Ubuntu Budgie.

My prime responsibility is to maintain the current package set that makes up Ubuntu Budgie.

My Ubuntu story

I dabble with Ubuntu during the Feisty days and became my primary desktop OS soon after with Gutsy.

My first active contribution was through Ubuntu Forums (Ubuntu Cappuccino Scuro) and later through Ask Ubuntu. Currently I am a community moderator with a not insubstantial score-card (http://askubuntu.com/users/14356/fossfreedom)

General

What I like least in Ubuntu

Some wiki pages are outdated and could be confusing to new contributors, like how to contribute fixes to Ubuntu. For example, one can attach a debdiff patch to a bug or link a Bzr branch.

For translators, the translation facility provided by Launchpad is quite limited. Ability to review and use other languages as reference are nice features, but we found it is not enough for our workflow when we were working on translation with the Ubuntu Kylin team. We do not only need the ability to review but the reviewer has to provide feedback to the translators so that the translators can refine the translations.
