Who I am

I'm Ian May and I joined Canonical in April of 2020. I'm a member of the Kernel Stable Team and my main responsibilities are related to the kernel SRU process.

My Ubuntu story

Back in 2006 while at University my parents gave me their old computer. I decided this would be a good opportunity to dive into Linux. From my perspective Ubuntu had the best user base so I grabbed a copy of Dapper Drake and haven't looked back since. I've spent years studying and using the Linux kernel. My development experience has been focused more towards out of tree drivers, targeting data protection at the FS and block I/O layers. Specifically writing VFS and Device Mapper modules.

My involvement

Since joining the Stable Kernel Team I've been able to develop a much better understanding of the kernel release process. I've been able to help in preparing a variety of different kernels. I've also been fortunate enough to get a chance to dive into the PCI layer and am hoping I eventually will be able to contribute to future advancements with PCI.
