Who I am

I'm Ian May and I joined Canonical in April of 2020. I'm a member of the Kernel Stable Team and my main responsibilities are related to the kernel SRU process.

My Ubuntu story

Back in 2006 while at University my parents gave me their old out dated computer. I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to start using Linux. After researching various distros it became clear Ubuntu had a strong involved community. So I grabbed a copy of Dapper Drake and have been hooked ever since. Over the years, my development experience has been focused towards out of tree drivers, specifically targeting data protection at the FS and block I/O layers. I'm fascinated by all areas of the kernel and am continuously trying to better understand how all the components and modules function.

My involvement

Since joining the Stable Kernel Team I've been able to develop a much better understanding of the stable kernel release process. I've been able to help in preparing a variety of different kernels. I've also been fortunate enough to get a chance to dive into the PCI layer and am hoping I eventually will be able to contribute to future advancements with PCI.
