Who I am

I'm a student of UCL (Louvain-la-Neuve - Belgium) and a member of the Cairo-Dock team and other projects which support Free Software. For more details, please have a look to my main page on this wiki.

My Ubuntu story

I've been using Ubuntu as my primary OS since 2008 after having tested Mandrake, Mandriva and Ubuntu Warty (with its great and famous liveCD) and used Debian Etch 64bits just after its release in April 2007.

My involvement

I always use the development release of Ubuntu on x86_64 (from the alphas to the stable release). This is why I post and fix a few bugs reports about this version when I've a few free time. I started doing debian packages with Cairo-Dock 2.0 in order to add its plug-ins in Ubuntu repos and have a better integration. I'm part of an organisation which promotes the Free Software by installing Ubuntu and helping users every working weeks and by organizing a few events. I also participate to the UDS-M (but only one day).

Examples of my work / Things I'm proud of

A short list:

  • Developing for the Cairo-Dock project of course Smile :) . During these years, I mainly tried to improve the user experience, to maintain the installation process, to support Launchpad tools (Code, Bugs, Translations, Answer, Blueprint) and to support new changes on API which are used by the dock. I also like creating useless applets like Impulse: http://youtu.be/9WNodluOc3o Wink ;)

  • Working on Cairo-Dock packaging (Ubuntu official repositories and Cairo-Dock repositories for Ubuntu (Weekly (PPA) and stable (PPA+repo) versions) and Debian (stable version) and its Ubuntu integration (by maintaining Cairo-Dock's Indicator applets, by adding a Cairo-Dock session, etc.)
  • But I also tried to patch other free softwares (there is a part of the list here) like this patch for Nautilus 3.2.1-0ubuntu4.2.

  • Recently, I'm also helping a friend who is the main dev of LaTeXila by testing and maintaining its packages on Ubuntu (with a PPA (stable/unstable version) and the official packages).

Areas of work

I'm working as developer with the Cairo-Dock team. I'm also cooperating with contributors of the cairo-dock-plug-ins-extras sub-project by merging branches and by maintaining it. You can see my work on launchpad: https://code.launchpad.net/cairo-dock

Things I could do better

Get more involved in design decisions in Ubuntu which can cause bugs for Cairo-Dock users (e.g.: bug #968133) but also do more new stuff for Cairo-Dock.

Plans for the future

General

Of course I still want to contribute more to Ubuntu but first I want to improve Cairo-Dock. I don't know if I can become a MOTU but maybe I can first join the universe-contributors team. I also want to have better Cairo-Dock packages in Debian to avoid some strange bugs due to the packages but it's not easy to see new changes on these packages (bug #657564).

What I like least in Ubuntu

Sometime it's hard to find discussions with the reason of some designs changes and made changes to have a better integration of Cairo-Dock in Ubuntu ((e.g.: bug #968133 which has still no official fixes and no answer from Light-Themes team).
