Youth Linux User

I have used linux since may 2006 when my windows 98 computer crashed (my guess is when I opened a file in my e-mail and chose to open all files with that type by accident) and i was wondering if there were other OSes besides mac os and windows so a day of googling and one big mess-up my computers dead. That night when my grandpa got home I told him I wanted to try Linux (I pronounced it LIE-NIX back then) so a few days later he brought me home a old Suse Linux 7.3 Professional. So I tinkered with that for a few days and got the net to work and read how old that distro was. that Christmas he bought me Xandros home-premium 4.0 but my computer was too old for it to work so a few days later i tried one more time then it said "Could not write to disk, write failed, Will now abort." and when my computer booted up the bios said "Hard Drive Detects Failure". So then i almost spent $50 on a hard drive then i thought "Why not just buy a new motherboard and use one of grandpa's old hard drives?". Then a few months and a computer later I was happily using Xandros until... Xandros signed a deal with Microsoft and all updates went down hill. Then, it hit me, "just switch distros!". so I downloaded Ubuntu 7.4 and I've used it since September 2007 and I have to say its the best linux distro I have ever used.

Not only has linux boosted my computer skills by doing everyday tasks but i have learned some basic programming, basic bash scripting and html without spending $300 on a good compiler.

If you are a windows user googling Ubuntu or something Linux, Linux isn't just a programming computer or something you have to be a rocket scientist (although NASA use Linux are there computer for security) to use because Ubuntu Linux is easy to use and is newb friendly!!!:)

I hope linux helps you with your computer life as it has helped me!
