Who I am

My name is Masahiro Yamada, and I have been a member of the Ubuntu Kernel Team since October 2022. I received a Master's degree in Physics from Kyoto University. Before joining Canonical, I worked at a couple of semiconductor companies, where I gained experience in hardware enablement and device driver development for the Linux kernel. Additionally, I maintain the build system (Kbuild and Kconfig) for the upstream kernel.

My Ubuntu story

I had opportunities to play with Unix in some university courses, which motivated me to install Linux on my personal computer. First, I used Red Hat Linux and its variants, then occasionally switched to Debian before finally settling on Ubuntu. I don’t remember exactly when I started using Ubuntu, but I believe I’ve been using it as my work environment for over 15 years now.

My involvement

During my time at Canonical, I have worked on hardware enablement for several IoT projects, where I port vendor patches and fix bugs on various chips and customer boards. I also occasionally assist with the Stable Release Updates cycle.
