Clear message

I have been using Ubuntu as the primary OS since around June 2008. Before that , I tried it but had a few hardware problems. Ubuntu is my first linux experience. And have been sticking with it without second thoughts.

I usually do artwork for apps or projects which are in need of artwork. Triage bug reports in launchpad. I'm not actually a programmer. [But i have submitted one minor patch Big Grin :) , which changes the default options in compiz for a papercut bug]

Click here to see a complete list of teams that I currently am a member of.

  • Humanity-icon team [elementary art team] , working closely with the design team in the theme's direction required for Ubuntu and helped in the smooth transition from Human to Humanity theme during Karmic cycle.
  • Papercutter's Team , have been helping out with papercut bugs long before a Papercutters team was even formed. I have only submitted one patch , but most of my work is triaging , contacting upstream devs and contacting members interested in fixing the bugs
  • Member of the BugControl team and taking part during Hugdays

  • Breathe-icon team .
  • Notify-osd icons : Noticed that the design team was a bit busy and that the notify-osd icons had to be redone with different orientation, took up the task and submitted new set of battery icons for notify-osd. Which are currently being used since Karmic.
  • Icon work for software-center.
  • Mockups for Update-manager , software-center [and a couple of other projects , ]

  • Followed a launchpad bug upstream and I noticed Empathy Upstream devs requested icons for empathy and hence I'v been contributing to empathy too.
  • Worked with another artist[Ulissee] and Submitted icons for Upstream Poppler to enable annotations support in evince , which should land in Lucid. [was informed of this by another member , since users noticed that annotations support was missing in Karmic]

  • Created the Lernid icon.
  • Created the Title page for Ubuntu-Manual team. [also a member of the Ubuntu-manual design team]
  • Actively Remote-participated in UDS Lucid since I was directly involved in a few of the discussions . Remotely followed discussions of UDS Karmic but participated to a minimum back then , was mainly observing the proceedings.

  • IRC support in #ubuntu-artwork , #ayatana and a regular presence in #ubuntu+1 , #ubuntu-desktop , #ubuntu-bugs , #ubuntu-x where I help users when i can.
  • Actively participate in the ubuntu-artwork and ayatana Mailing list and a few other mailing lists
  • Submitting fixes for Ubuntu default themes.
  • Recently , I'v started advocating Ubuntu and converting a few of my friend's and family members' systems to Ubuntu/Xubuntu. [I do impromptu observations on how they interact with the system ,sort-of user-testing , sshh .. dont tell them Wink ;) ]

  • Currently Involved in Upstream gnome-icon-theme icon work too.

Future Goals

  • Become a part of the Ubuntu Artwork Packagers team.
  • Do artwork/mockups as and when the need arises.
  • Create a Ubuntu-specific art request wiki page for use by Ubuntu related projects , which the community-art members can work on. [Already spoke about this to kwwii and wheels are in motion ]
  • Create a new interesting theme and try to get it included in the ubuntu-community themes. [have a rough plan in my head , and it is partially in progress]
  • Upstream gnome-icon theme devs have asked me to start and maintain a new package in upstream itself , for extra icons [MIME and drives], will be hoping to do that as soon as possible.
  • If I ever get free time of atleast 6 months to refresh programing skills and really work on programming.
  • Hopefully become an Ubuntu Member

Testimonials

Vish has been an outstanding contributor to the artwork and papercuts team. He's very active and does great work. Offering Ubuntu membership to Vish is a no-brainer Smile :) kwwii 2024-04-20 08:07:32

"No-brainer" is exactly the phrase that came to mind when discussing Vish's Ubuntu membership. Not only should Vish be made an Ubuntu member, we should clone him 100 times and make the clones members too! Contributors of Vish's caliber are extremely rare; he's an extremely talented artists, has great user experience understanding, and a great curiosity for technical details as well which makes him completely well-rounded. djsiegel 2024-04-20 08:07:32
