 * I have a domain for the website, which I will also get a mailing installed on: www.pythonnews.org. Granted, the name doesn't have anything to with our group, but I have it lying around. I also figure we will eventually get put under some other domain someday anyways.  * I have a domain for the website, which I will also get a mailing installed on: www.pythonnews.org. If we need more than a single webpage, we have a real webserver with MySQL ready for us. Zope is not out of the question either.

Introduction

Proposal: The California Team to be established in order to advocate and educate Linux users for the entire state of California about Ubuntu Linux and the Ubuntu "way." Where possible, use existing local resources, example: SVLUG at "http://svlug.org/installfest/".

News

  • I have setup a mailing list, finally, http://www.pythonnews.org/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu.ca. Once it is has been verified to work for other people I will put in on the main page.

  • I have a domain for the website, which I will also get a mailing installed on: www.pythonnews.org. If we need more than a single webpage, we have a real webserver with MySQL ready for us. Zope is not out of the question either.
  • More news and notes when I have the time to type it in from SVLUG InstallFest in June......

  • Proposing a booth or something for http://www.linuxpip.org/ubuconwiki/ at Ubucon in August at Google.

  • We have a booth at Linux World in August in San Francisco. We need help manning the booth. A webpage will be up shortly so that people can schedule when they can help man the booth.
  • Mark is setting up a website and real mailing list. It should be available in a few weeks at most.
  • The SVLUG InstallFest was a smash success for being rather loose in structure. Everybody was installing Ubuntu and there was lots of talk around. 5 new memebers for a mailing list.

  • Nicholas Wheeler offered to let California Ubuntu people help man the booth at National Educational Computing Conference 2006 in San Diego. The conference starts July 5th and goes on till the 7th. If interested, please contact me at ubuntu.ca.team@gmail.com

==== TODOs =====

  • Become officially recognized as a group.
  • Create a mailing list -- Mark N. (Doing) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeams We can't use "ubuntu-ca", so perhaps ubuntu-california or something. I currently have a "group" list in my gmail account.

  • Setup IRC channel -- Mark N. (Doing) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeams We put a request in for "#ubuntu-california". I am logged in at work to "#ubuntu-california" on irc.freenode.org. I may not always be paying attentiont to irc. Be patient.

  • Once officially recognized, create a domain and webpage: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoHosting -- Mark N (on hold) We will try to get ca.ubuntu-us.org. I am not going to wait. I am going to register a website and put it on my server. This will take a few weeks. I will only have a website, not anything else, on my server. I may put in a Zope server to let people edit webpages and such.

  • Create a web forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/forums

  • Satisfy the requirements for team leader at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeamContact --- Mark N. (Doing)

Goals

  • Create one main place where users will be able to gather and share information about the distribution;
  • Initiate monthly face to face meetings at a pre-determined facility where users will be able to better interact and receive more support;
  • Plan some type of organized activity where we could perform InstallFests and such;

  • Advocate, advocate, and advocate! =)
  • Attend the monthly svlug.org Install Fests. I should be there in June.

Mark's Personal Goals

  • Help LPI with Ubuntu Certification process.
  • Help demonstrate Ubuntu and local users groups and conferences.
  • Develop articles and participate in business events promoting Ubuntu for business, personal, and geek use.
