Regular meeting times will be established after some trial and error. Currently we are using Doodle to establish the best meeting times for the various people who are interested in Edubuntu. Meeting times are announced on the edubuntu-devel mailing list (among other places).

Ubuntu The Edubuntu Council oversees Edubuntu, providing technical guidance, community governance, and ensuring the health of the project.

EC Charter (draft)

The Edubuntu Council will:

  • Normally consist of 5 members;
  • Be nominated by ~ubuntu-members and;
  • Be voted in by ~edubuntu-members with supervision by the Community Council;
  • Have a quorum of 3 members;
  • Have regular meetings that will be held publicly in #ubuntu-meeting;
  • serve for 1 year, elections will run 11 months after EC members have been elected. It may be decided that the term be changed to 2 years after the elections in 2010.

Role of Edubuntu Council (currently in discussion with the EC)

  • Technical aspects of Edubuntu:
    • Release management
    • Feature specification approval
  • Community aspects of Edubuntu:
    • Approval of new Edubuntu Member applications (during EC meetings, normally every two weeks)
    • Conflict resolution and escalation to Community Council
    • Reporting to the Community Council
    • Maintain the various Edubuntu LP Teams

Meetings

Reporting

The Edubuntu Council shall send a report to the Community Council after any EC meeting introducing new members and summarizing any other decisions and actions that have been taken.

Elections (currently under discussion)

For Edubuntu Council elections, the Edubuntu Council will announce it publicly trough the Edubuntu mailing lists and the Fridge. Ubuntu members will be able to make nominations by contacting the Edubuntu council. The Edubuntu Council will then forward the list of nominees to the Community Council. The Community Council will set up a vote for Edubuntu Members on Launchpad and announce the results of the election. In the case where the new Edubuntu Council member is not an Edubuntu Member, they will receive Edubuntu Membership concurrently.
