With this functionality you can load web pages in "tabs" within the same browser window, making it easy to switch back and forth among multiple web pages. Tabbed browsing is very convenient for reading the news or sifting through search results.

You can open a new tab by going to the File menu > New Tab or Ctrl+T with your keyboard. To open a link in a new tab, right click on it and choose "Open in New Tab" or just middle click the link.

For example, when searching the web, you can keep the full search results in one tab and open each result in a new tab. You can easily compare results by moving from one tab to the next.

You can also load all your favourite web sites with one click. Bookmark all your favourite web sites (or the sites you visit daily) and place them in a folder. Selecting 'Open in Tabs' through bookmarks, loads your favourite sites all at once - saving you time.

=== Force links from external applications to open in new tab ===
This feature is useful for when you are opening websites from an email. It will make all of the links open in a new tab rather than a new window which clutters up the taskbar.

To enable this:
Edit > Prefrences
Advanced
Under the Heading "Open links from other applications in:"
Select the option: a new tab in the most recent window

=== Open all new links in a new tab instead of new window ===
To show the hidden prefrences insert the following into your user.js (This is in your profile folder)

{{{

    // Reveal more tab/window options:
    user_pref("browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs", true);
}}}

Now restart firefox

Now in prefrences you will see some extra options

Force links that open new windows to open in:
the same tab/window as the link
a new tab

Select the "a new tab"
