Filling in your printer:
Make & Model: Whatever it says on the front of your printer, usually.
PPD/Driver: the file used to tell Ubuntu your printer's settings & capabilities.
Supported: whether or not Ubuntu detected your printer automatically.
Works?: whether or not all of your printer's functions work in Ubuntu. (possibly after you've installed the correct PPD/driver files.)
Ubuntu Version: which version(s) of Ubuntu you are using the printer in. (Warty (4.10), Hoary (5.04) or Breezy (5.10))
Comments: Comments or links that might help members of the Ubuntu community use this model of printer

Set up needs to be done manually (parallel port, haven't tested usb), but works brilliantly with supplied ppd file included in ubuntu install. MichaelRHead - I have two of these. They both work great, though they have a smallish print area (roughly half-inch margins on each edge) |

User needs to turn Printer off, unplug USB Cable, plug in again. It won't print until you do this. Same as on Debian, probably driver problem. |

Printing anything with graphics at 300dpi will cause a "20 MEM OVERFLOW" error. This happens unless you have installed an additional memory module. The driver will send the data all at once and not in chunks, which the printer can't handle.. Printing at 150dpi results in really ugly printouts (especially from firefox). The hp4laser supposedly is smart enough to send the data in chunks, but I'm not smart enough to configure it with cups (http://home.mn.rr.com/richardsons/sw/hp4laser/). (MikkoVirkkilä) |
