Grey color/dithered black seems to be created by mixing CMY which looks bad and is buggy in photos. Black-white stuff and color graphics print as it should. |

Printer detection offered 2 printers: with and without an underscore. hp-toolbox wants the one with the underscore, but then you have to manually choose the driver. For GIMP, this printer is not listed but Adobe postscript level 2 works nicely. |

Printing anything with graphics at 300dpi will cause a "20 MEM OVERFLOW" error. This happens unless you have installed an additional memory module. The driver will send the data all at once and not in chunks, which the printer can't handle.. Printing at 150dpi results in really ugly printouts (especially from firefox). The hp4laser supposedly is smart enough to send the data in chunks, but I'm not smart enough to configure it with cups (http://home.mn.rr.com/richardsons/sw/hp4laser/). (MikkoVirkkilä) |

v5.10 (Breezy) & v6.06 (Dapper) |
Even though the box says "requires MS Windows", I installed it under Windows and Ubuntu and it was much easier to set up in Ubuntu!! Nothing to do except follow the printer instructions up to it's 5 minute calibration, then press "setup" and enter the network details (e.g. 192.168.0.4). Switch it off and on again. Test that you can ping it from Ubuntu. If so, go to System -> Administration -> Printing -> New Printer, select "Network Printer", "HP JetDirect" and put 192.168.0.4 as "Host" leaving "port" as is (default 9100). Select "Photosmart 3200" as the Model (because this is the series name). That's it. To get scanning working type "hp-makeuri 192.168.0.4" to get the printer uri, then run "xsane <printer uri>" (e.g. xsane hpaio:/net/Photosmart_3200_series?ip=192.168.0.4). See http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-112364.html. Worked first time for me! |
