Everything works except: To use dual monitors had to install the proprietary nVidia drivers (install was automatic once I told it to, very nice). Two Samsung SyncMaster 205BWs, had to edit the xorg.conf manually to use the native 1680x1050 resultion of the monitors even though the model was listed and selected. XPS 400 is unusable because network fluctuates between 300B/s and 7KB/s, never faster. Is Dual boot set up with x86_64 install of Kubuntu 7.10. Disabled second CPU core, same network issue, installed a 10/100 Realtek NIC, same result. Booted off 32-bit 7.10 live CD, same result, rebooted into Windows, the same downloads from the same URLs tried in Kubuntu 7.10 get between 5 and 8MB/s vs 200B/s to 7KB/s, compiled latest version of the e1000 driver, no change in throughput, played with all the e1000 module settings, no improvement. Please help, everything is so much faster and more responsive in Kubuntu compared to Windows XP Pro but I can't use Ubuntu because the network won't work correctly. Please help me diagnose the problem. What info do you need in order to help me? Thanks. Summary of Symptoms: a typical web pages loads 25-30% of the way instantly and then never finishes loading even if you leave it overnight which leads me to believe that it can get the full bandwidth but only for one frame or packet. Downloads from Adobe.com always load 5400 bytes and then stop. Downloads from ubuntu update/package sites get between 200B/s and 7KB/s but this may be because wget or what ever aptitude and apt-get use constantly retry, picking up from where they left off in the download while firefox and konquerer don't seem to be able to do the same for web pages. On google.com for example, the logo only loads half way. ifconfig, ethtool, etc never report any errors or lost packets. |
