I am an Ubuntu user from the Philippines. I have found the Ubuntu community to be one of the most active and aggressive in pushing Linux as a platform of choice for everday computing. {{attachment:me-jsg2.png}}

I have deep interests in the adoption of FOSS for the improvement of public education in my home country. At the moment I am testing out Ubuntu as a viable distribution for local adoption in the computerization project of public schools (for Grades 1 to 6) in my area. Target fields of study are: Math, English and Science.  *'''Blog & Homepage:''' http://engage.wordpress.com

Note: this will be accomplished via [http://www.edubuntu.org Edubuntu] I am from the Philippines. I have found the Ubuntu community to be one of the most active and aggressive in pushing GNU/Linux as a platform of choice for everyday computing.
Line 7: Line 10:
I am an active member of the Ubuntu DocumentationTeam. I used to be part of the [[https://launchpad.net/~communitycouncil|Ubuntu Community Council]], the community governance board which determines the social policies and structure of the Ubuntu Project. [[http://www.ubuntu.com/community/processes/council|Read more about the Community Council]]. I voluntarily stepped down from the council in 2007.
Line 9: Line 12:
Also, I currently serve as DocumentationTeam Secretary (as of June 2005)- that means i'll be doing tons of housekeeping for the team which involves regular meetings, coordination with other Ubuntu teams, wiki work (I used to hate this, but the wiki transfer made me love it again!), svn work, and more! I also served as part of the Edubuntu Council in 2006.
Line 11: Line 14:
If you're subscribed in the [http://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-doc ubuntu-doc mailing list] and having problems with it, tell me so (I'm one of the list owners)! I can check and see what's needs to be done. Most of my spare time is now being put to good use in working towards a small, but effective implementation of OLPC and Sugar as learning tools for displaced children in my locality.
Line 13: Line 16:
I am involved in some targets for Breezy. Check out my [http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com Ubuntu Down Under] participation in my [http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com/JeromeGotangcoActivity Activity Page]. It's mostly about community but there are some interesting technical projects I am involved that we hope to achive in Breezy such as Dial Up support, PDA/Smartphone support and the Totally Rad Laptop support.

Finally, in my home country, I organize activites for the Ubuntu Local Community PhilippineTeam. I can be reached via email at jgotangco@gmail.com
