Current Issues

Issues with Breezy Badger

* Headphone jack does not mute internal speakers

* Latest SMP kernel breaks keyboard.

(sorry for this but first time i edit a wiki ever !!!) I know how to fix that... the "/etc/hotplug/blacklist" file just add pcmcia and pcmcia_core and that will be fixed

* SMP Kernel boots into X and then just before GDM loads it hangs with mouse perpetually doing "hourglass" spin thing -purpleidea

* Intermittent heat-related issues -- not properly understood

* gnome-terminal and xterms not closing properly -- become uninterruptible

Issues with Dapper Drake

* Headphone jack does not mute internal speakers

* (and "jack sense" options aren't available in sound mixer) http://www.math.umd.edu/~olsson/jerome-install.html was recommended to me for fixing the line jack sense. I'm not a kernel haxor (yet) so I'll just put this here for now.

  • If you open a Gnome Terminal and run alsamixer you should be able to use the arrow keys to move to the two sense options and use the 'm' key to toggle them on/off. -PaulSladen

  • I can only repeat myself and say that these are not present, therefore they cannot be toggled by alsamixer, any other mixer, or by any means. -TennesseeLeeuwenburg

* sound quality is not what it's supposed to be. often "crackles", although sounds perfect in windows. (used to get a hardware baseline) --purpleidea It does this in Windows for me too -- TennesseeLeeuwenburg2

when I install XMMS and use the "OSS Driver 1.2.10 [libOSS.so]" sound quality is perfect! and OSS configuration picks up the correct soundcard (because it matches what the bios says) as a SigmaTel STAC9200. If you switch the output plugin to the "ALSA 1.2.10 output plugin [libALSA.so]" sound quality goes back to bad cracklyness. The ALSA plugin options also list the mixer card as "HDA Intel". Note that between the two, the OSS seems to be significantly louder than ALSA. While I am playing around with ALSA, please go do the same, and test the above to see if it fixes sound for you. --purpleidea.

  • This may happen in the volume levels are too high. Does turning them down help? (This also applies to the separate hardware mixer if there is one -PaulSladen

Nope Sad :( --purpleidea

This is really beginning to drive me nuts. I have to listen to my co-workers! --TennesseeLeeuwenburg2

Issues now fixed in Dapper Drake

* Hard disk spins down far too soon/often, no obvious control mechanism (i.e. in "power settings" or "disks" -- don't know where else to look)

This the spin-down on AC power, on Battery, on both. It is reproducible if you start from a clean reboot? -PaulSladen AC Power, haven't checked with battery. Happens 100% of the time, reboots do not affect. --TennesseeLeeuwenburg2 The problem just ... went away one update. --TennesseeLeeuwenburg2

* SMP Kernel seems to work now in Flight4. Although either the gnome cpufreq-monitor applets are working strangely for the 2nd cpu or there are still some issues to be worked out of the kernel. (likely) --purpleidea.

Notes

This is a first time edit on a WIKI for me (["DigitalLF"]) but i will do all i can to help with anything on this laptop.

  • Excellent, many thanks for any testing you are able to do - hopefully you'll get a better experience out of it too! -PaulSladen
