PYthon KDE BitTorrent Client

I'm writing a small and easy to use bittorrent client with python-kde3. At least, it's looking much nicer then KTorrent Wink ;)

Working right now on the [http://www.iptel.org/ SIP Express Router].

It looks like, that I also have a project for KDE. Will be similar to gnome-power-manager...let's see what the logfile from the kickoff meeting says Wink ;)

I wanted to write a Kynaptic replacement for Ubuntu. Now it looks like, that we should focus first on a new way to have a nicer update-manager for gnome and kde. You will find on [https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/UpdateManager this] page, some thoughts of how it will be implemented. For the implementation of a KDE frontend, we need to have a (quite) stable KDE enviroment and a working backend for the update-manager. To accomplish this, there will be some adds to python-apt.

You will find me in #ubuntu-de, #ubuntu and some other channels (not only ubuntu related) on the freenode ircserver.

How To Build Debian Packages From Scratch
  • Writing on a howto/walkthrough for beginners on how to package sourcepackages and playing aroung with buggy upstream software.

    You can find this at HowToBuildDebianPackagesFromScratch. (Status: Work in progress - Not finished/Not usable Version: 0.1)

Local Apt-Get Repositories for Developers
  • Wrote this little Howto (LocalAptGetRepositories) , just because I was fighting more than 18 hours with all this stuff.

Package Building

klibido
  • A KDE Usenet Binary Extractor

vnc2swf
  • A VNC screen recorder, which records VNC sessions into a Macromedia Flash&tm; movie.

    • The package itself compiles fine right now. It depends on ming-0.2a, a flash library. Until now, there is no package for ming and vnc2swf, so I'm working on it.

qinx
  • a native KDE Style/Window Decoration and Color scheme (>= kde 3.2)

    • I'm a fan of David Johnsons work, so I promoted new ebuilds to Gentoo and now a package for (K)Ubuntu

grover
  • a native KDE Window Decoration (>= kde 3.2)

    • I'm a fan of David Johnsons work, so I promoted a package for (K)Ubuntu

Something about me

Hello Friend,

my name is Stephan '\sh' Hermann and I'm working with Linux now for over 12 years. In my real life I'm a system administrator working in a German Cable TV Company, playing around with some SUNs and some Alphas and finally X86 boxes with Linux on it Smile :)

In my spare time, if you name it, I have a couple of other projects running, first of all my own company, called sourcecode.de. After all, I'm administrating a couple of Gentoo and RedHat Boxes for a small company called [http://www.wds-tech.de/ WDS Tech], they're selling gameservers, webspace and some hardware.

The rest of my daytime is occupied for my family.

Well, you know now, that the priorities are different, from what I'm writing here.

Nevertheless, Oliver Grawert(ogra), who was working with me in the same cable tv company, "forced" me to play with Ubuntu Linux. After installing my first Hoary RC1 distribution I was quite amazed. Now I'm running Ubuntu Hoary 5.04 on my beloved HP/Compaq laptop and trying to promote some new packages.

2 years ago I went on holiday with my family to South Africa. My Ex-Wife is a southafrican indian and we visited all nice (non-tourist) places. So, I was really surprised to see Mark Shuttleworth doing this project, even with a hint to Africa. Finally, I was working with Thawte in the past, when Thawte wasn't known by anybody else then to a couple of anti-verisign guys Wink ;) What I forgot to say about South Africa is: If you visit Durban the next time, please visit the indian takeaway "Coconut Grove", it's really a nice place to eat (directly in front of the Durban beach) and they are making nice chilli cheese lamb burgers, chilly french fries and bunny chows (sp?) (it's a loaf of bread, and inside you will find lamb meat). If you like good wine, make a trip to Stellenbosch, it's near Cape Town (western cape), and taste some of the good red wine of South Africa.

I have to stop now with writing about South Africa, but it's really a nice, friendly, fantastic country, and I'm quite sure, in a couple of years time, I want to settle there and setup a business.

Right now I'm waiting for someone who is reviewing my KDE packages for qinx and grover [http://www.usermode.org/code.html qinx and grover homepage]. If you're a MOTU and want to review my package, please check on MOTUNewPackages.

Some stuff of my past:

1994-1999 NWU GmbH, Germany

  • Technical Director, 5 years most of the time working with X86 Linux and Cisco

    trained on SecureComputing SecureZone Firewall (doesn't exit anymore, now it's called Sidewinder)
