About me
I'm an UNIX administrator working part time for the Computing Centre of Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in Finland. Current work involves administering 200+ Linux (Debian Sarge atm) workstations and some Tru64-UNIX servers. When not working, I'm trying to finish my master's degree (major: semiconductors and materials of electronics).
I've been using Linux since 1998; first briefly SuSE, then Debian unstable until in November 2004 I had to reinstall my laptop and decided to try Ubuntu because of the Debian heritage. Now my home computer runs Dapper, and some of my friends have installed Ubuntu as well and are very pleased.
Skills
- General UNIX-administration, mostly Linux and Tru64 UNIX (+Trucluster)
shell & some perl, other languages read-only for now
- deb-packaging
What I'm interested in
- GNOME, in general
- NFSv4 support. Essential for installations behind insecure networks
- making sure that Ubuntu behaves well in a campus network with hundreds of clients
- improving the framework for automatic installations
- improving various tools aimed at system administrators
VDR: my home machine is now a DVB/PVR server (since 2006-2-10)

- make PAM/LDAP/krb5 integration better
more and better VDR-related packages [http://www.e-tobi.net/blog/pages/vdr-repository/], together with Debian
