I was looking into UserLinux at the time (fall 2004), when I heard about a secret Debian-based distribution that was being created (http://no-name-yet.com) by the Warty Warthogs. I fell in love with Ubuntu at first sight of the Ubuntu 4.10 Preview Release. I was infatuated with how Ubuntu took the best parts of Debian (huge apt repositories, commitment to free software, great community) and improved on all the things that Debian lacked (regular releases, simple install). We have setup a website, IRC channel and mailing list to support continued growth in the area. This is the key step. Without the support of a strong and widespread team base these goals will not be possible. |
