tuXlabs is an ICT model aligned to the South African E-Education Whitepaper. A tuXlab is implemented through a 7 step project management cycle that aims to maintain sustainability in the project. The vision of the project is to develop an easy replicable solution for schools which can be extended into other community development programs.
tuXlabs is build around the open source philosophy of freedom to share, freedom to use, freedom to replicate, freedom to distribute. A tuXlab network runs completely on open source software which offers many benefits technically but its major component is ownership. The use of open content is also well entrenched into the tuXlab network.

Meduxa Presentation
The Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Spanish Canary Island's regional goverment have released mEDUXa 1.0. mEDUXa is a Free Software GNU/Linux distribution developed for educational purposes based on Kubuntu. It will be deployed on 35,000 computers in 1100 schools, which represents 325,000 possible users (25,000 teachers and 300,000 students) in the Canary Islands state schools. mEDUXa comes with different profiles, configured thanks to KDE's Kiosk mode. One of mEDUXa's major feature is the profile for young pupils (from 4 to 8 years old).

La última versión estable es la 3.0, publicada el 27 de Marzo de 2007 y que presenta diferentes "sabores" o versiones: cliente, servidor y nano. Las versiones anteriores de MAX se basaban en Knoppix.

David Trask is an educator and technology director with 20 years of experience in the classroom. Beginning in 2001, David successfully deployed Linux on a mass scale at his school in Vassalboro, Maine USA. Since then he has been a vocal advocate for Linux and Open Source in schools. In this session, David will share some practical advice on how to introduce Linux and Open Source in your schools. He will address everything from getting started, planning, integration with existing networks, as well as advice on dealing with school/community "politics". If you are thinking of deploying Linux and Open Source or you would like to be able to pass on the advice to someone else ... this session is a "must- see".
