Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) released

Adam Conrad, on behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team, announces the release of Ubuntu 15.04 which is codenamed "Vivid Vervet". In his announcement, Adam informs us of some important changes in this release, lists the flavors that are taking part, advises from where support can be obtained, and provides links to the download sites.

Announcing the next Ubuntu Online Summit

David Planella reminds us that now Ubuntu 15.04 has been released the next big event in the Ubuntu calendar is the Ubuntu Online Summit which takes place between 5th and 7th May 2015. He says that the schedule is still being finalized but lists the tracks in which the various sessions will be included, informs us of how to participate in or watch the sessions, and how to propose a session if you have a topic or an idea that you'd like to implement.

Developers Conference 2015, Mauritius

Ish Sookun shares details from a Developers Conference held in Mauritius and that the first day coincided with the release of Vivid Vervet. He says it was three days of fun in which a lot of people were met. Ish links a local newspaper report of the event, and to a Hacklog site which gives an illustrated day-by day breakdown of the conference which showcased "the awesomeness of Ubuntu” and hosted a release party on Thursday.

Forums Council: Ubuntu Phone and Tablet support on the forum

The Ubuntu Forums Council informs its users that now that the BQ phone is on the market the Council felt there was a real need to support this specific variant of Ubuntu by creating a new sub-forum called "Ubuntu Phone and Tablet" which will provide support for smart phones and tablets. They say that the old "Mobile Technology Discussions" sub-forum will remain live for the time being.

Nicholas Skaggs: It's Show and Tell Time!

Nicholas Skaggs promotes the upcoming Ubuntu Online Summit by inviting individuals and teams to do a short presentation “about something you made or work on. Or perhaps something you find interesting. Sean Davis: What’s New in Xubuntu 15.04

Sean Davis says the new Xubuntu 15.04 release includes the "hotly anticipated" Xfce 4.12 as well as all of the typical application, appearance, documentation, and translation updates. Scott Kitterman: Where’s the Ubuntu (the Linux distribution) in Ubuntu Online Summit?

Interview with YokoZar of the Ubuntu Community Council

In the seventh and final interview of the series, Scott Ritchie (YokoZar) talks about what he does for a career, his first computing experience, and some of the Ubuntu projects he's worked on over the years. He says that his focus on Ubuntu today is keeping the Wine packages "healthy and reasonable." In his final comments, Scott says: "What we do matters. If you can make Ubuntu just a tiny bit better, that benefit is multiplied across millions of people. There are few opportunities in life where you can have that big of a positive impact on other human beings."

Ubuntu 15.04: Desktop, Phone and IoT; towards a converged future

Canonical writes that the release of 15.04 Ubuntu reaches and extends it’s current grip of the desktop, IoT (Internet of Things), China, and phones. Included in this release the desktop receives new versions of Firefox developer edition, Android Studio, and other developer tools. They say that the first stable version of Snappy is part of 15.04 and that the Ubuntu Phone also now has images based on the new Ubuntu release.

Ubuntu MATE 15.04 Released, First Version As An Official Ubuntu Flavor

Andrew of WebUpd8 writes that Ubuntu MATE’s first release as an official Ubuntu flavor comes with 15.04. He says the tweak tool ‘MATE Tweak’ is now included, as well as a new theme called Yuyo Dark designed just for MATE as well as a light version.

Ubuntu Desktop To Eventually Switch To Snappy Packages By Default

In the article by Andrew of WebUpd8 reports that Will Cooke has stated that all of the packages in the Desktop version of Ubuntu will be snappy.
