Jason Evangelho tells us graphics drivers advance quickly, and Jason - equating this as Ubuntu listening to user needs - has made a change that allows LTS users to use the newer Nvidia drivers. No longer will PPAs be required, and in the future it will be backported to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

AMD Releases BIOS Fix To Motherboard Partners For Booting Newer Linux Distributions
Michael Larabel writes that AMD have released a BIOS fix for their motherboard partners that allows booting Linux distributions on new Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) processors. Michael describes how the issue relates to a RdRand which was fixed in the kernel in May, alas too late for many distributions like Ubuntu 19.04 due to AMDs testing choices. Hopefully we'll see BIOS updates soon.
