Soft-freeze of jammy-updates for 22.04.1

Lukasz Zemczak reminds us Ubuntu 22.04.1 releases next week, thus jammy-updates is being stabilized with RC images due end-of-week or Monday. Reminders are given to SRU members to avoid placing any packages in the jammy-updates/jammy-security queues without coordinating with the Ubuntu Release Team, at least until after release of Ubuntu 22.04.1 on 4th August 2022.

Call for testing: native messaging support in the Firefox snap

oSoMoN advises that a fix for Firefox's snap Native Messaging feature is now available for testing on 22.04 (and upcoming 22.10). A link is provided so you can switch to the beta or edge channel and test other extensions; as the GNOME Shell integration extension and the KeePassXC Browser extension are tested. All feedback is encouraged.

Compassionate doc

Bill Wear tells us Canonical’s aim is to be the "best open-source company in the world". Bill tells us he is here with Canonical and he wants "to write great documentation". Bill expresses many key points, along with his views, in developing documentation and requests reader feedback/suggestions. "Please tell us what you think. We’d truly like to know."

Intel Begins Shifting 6th To 10th Gen Intel Processor Graphics To Legacy Support

Michael Larabel reports Intel is moving their 6th-10th generation Intel processor graphics to their legacy support model. We are told this will primarily impact Windows users, but also has some impacts for Linux users. Michael gives us some more details of what this means, including "only critical fixes and security vulnerabilities" will be fixed moving forward - with security fixes provided quarterly (instead of monthly). We are told the effects for Linux users are less, though it will likely mean less time is spent by Intel engineers in fixing Linux driver issues, and the possibility of reduced CI coverage for older graphics, but thankfully all code is open source.

Canonical Continues Working To Improve Its Steam Snap

Michael Larabel reminds us Canonical engineers are continuing to work on the Steam snap "for making that confined version of Valve's Linux game client viable and useful to Ubuntu gamers". The snap package is still 'beta', so hasn't replaced the debian package. We are told the latest fixes include "fixing HiDPi issues, addressing locale issues, and" more. Mention is made of the "kisak-core20" release the week prior which allows more "up-to-date Mesa drivers inside the Steam Snap" which are better for games running at "optimal speed". Links are provided for more details, or if you'd like to give the Steam Snap a try on Ubuntu.

"Em vésperas de férias (das gravações, não dos episódios) o Diogo descobriu, finalmente, as maravilhas do trabalho remoto e virou um nómada digital. O Miguel, muito mais conservador optou por fazer apenas boa companhia ao seu fiel amigo… O Carrondo baldou-se! Este é o último episódio gravado na semana em que é publicado, pelo menos até meados de Setembro, por isso: Boas férias para nós e até breve."
