The Ubuntu font family is a set of libre-licensed typefaces originally created in 2010–2011 by the type foundry Dalton Maag, which developed Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, and Arabic glyph sets. (The latter two were never released by Canonical). In 2022–2023, Type Network was commissioned to update the family to the OpenType Font Variations format.[1]
The family includes roman, italic, and monospaced styles, each with weight and width axes.
History
Dalton Maag’s original release of the fonts debuted with Ubuntu 10.10, after a closed testing phase.[2][3] The Type Network update debuted with Ubuntu 23.04.
