Currently I'm using the non Cairo Clearlooks engine for gtk+ as I've found it offers acceptable performance with a clean modern design. Peek at the attachment below to see some gtkperf tests I ran on an Nvidia Quatro P4 2.8 ghz system. Peace runs about 8% slower than the fastest theme I tested in comparrison to Human which was twice as slow as the fastest theme (Mist). The test results have been revised with results for the Murine engine which faired slightly better than Ubuntulooks. Murine was added to the test results and scored middle of the road for Ubuntulooks themes.

Lightened the color of the window borders on this version.

attachment:widgetfactory5.png
Made the gray background more of a beige and removed much of the purple shading on the clearlooks buttons. Also made the prelighting a LOT brighter to show up clearly when hovering over buttons.

More of the same clean colors. Borders are redder but still blend very well with the Dapper browns. Haven't tested it with many of the Edgy wallpapers lately but early papers went well with this color scheme.

This is the Peace GTK theme.

Goal

Simple, fast, elegant design, and above all easy on the eyes for users that sit at computers for hours at a time. The theme should be able to serve as a default for months or years by discerning users.

Engine

Currently I'm using the non-cairo Clearlooks engine for gtk+ as I've found it offers acceptable performance with a clean modern design. Peek at the attachment below to see some gtkperf tests I ran on an Nvidia Quatro P4 2.8 ghz system. Peace with clearlooks runs about 8% slower than the fastest theme I tested(Mist) which compares favorably to Human(only 1/2 as fast as Mist). Murine was added to the test results and scored middle of the road for Ubuntulooks themes.
