My name is Billy Jones and I love Ubuntu! Being very interested in electronics and technology, I built my first shortwave radio when I was about ten. I took electronics classes, physics and PC repair classes in school and now I am a General Class amateur radio "ham" operator. I have always loved computers and networking I began to learn about them back in the 80's spending time with Apple II machines, BBS systems and BASIC. I got on the Internet around 1991 on UNIX at the office. The net was so much faster when it was all text based (ha ha). My first exposure to Linux was Red Hat back around 2003 when it was on about 10 floppies and I had to take my PC apart to identify hardware prior to installation! Hardware detection has gotten so much better!

My name is Billy Jones and I live out in Sugar Land, Texas, USA. I am an old man at 47 years old and I work in Houston, Texas as a Electronic Technician working to administer and maintain electronic security equipment such as Lenel OnGuard, analog and digital (IPPOE) cameras, X-Ray machines, CEIA metal detectors, card readers, etc. I work closely with our IT/CDSU department since everything is networked these days. I recently took on training for a Physical Security Network Associates certification and I passed so now I am a "PSNA"! Thinking about passing the CCNA next... I found Ubuntu around 5.04 and I figured I had found the perfect O/S and we all know, FOSS Rules! I am a KDE fan though and I usually run Kubuntu and OpenSUSE on my big PC. I use a few Panasonic Toughbooks for rugged mobile testing with Kubuntu and I have Kubuntu 10.10 netbook and XFCE on my Dell Mini 9. I consider myself much more of a hardware guy than a software guy but I am trying to learn a little scripting and I would like to learn Python and a little programming

Being a classic nerd, I was very interested in electronics when I was young and I built a shortwave radio from a kit when I was about ten. I took electronics classes and PC repair classes in school and I am also a General Class amateur radio "ham" operator. I have always loved computers and networking I began to learn about all this back in the late 70’s spending time with Apple II machines and BBS systems. I got on the Internet around 1991 running on a Unix at the office I used to use elm for email back then. The net was so much faster when it was all text based ;) I found and began running Red Hat Linux back about 2003/2004 and I remember it being on about 10 floppies and having to take my PC apart to identify hardware prior to installation! Things have gotten so much better!

I found Ubuntu around 2005 with version 5.04 and I think I found the perfect O/S. These days I usually run on Kubuntu 8.04 and OpenSUSE 11 on my big house PC and my Panasonic Toughbooks) and Linux is my favorite operating system in the world. I consider myself much more of a hardware guy than a software guy but I am trying to learn a little scripting and I would like to learn Python but so far programming tough and not for me ;( However I do try to learn about things I have problems with using the most excellent Ubuntu and Kubuntu forums frequently.

Thanks to all, I have learned so much and I try to help out when I can.

Politically I am a Libertarian and I find our all present Presidential choices less than desirable. We should put "none of the above" on the ballot ;)
