Context aware

From Ubuntu Wiki

Canonical are developing a "context-aware" operating system (OS).

What is a context-aware OS?

The ambition is to design an OS that better understands the user's intent when trying to achieve their goals.

A key enabling technology for this project is AI tooling, including open-weight models and open-source harnesses.

One of the expected advantages of a context-aware OS is improving accessibility of the interface (e.g., speech-to-text) and helping users manage complexity (e.g., interpreting logs).

Existing context-aware features

The Myna speech-to-text application, introduced on the release of Ubuntu 26.10, is an early example of efforts to make the Desktop more context aware.
