Contributions
I feel these are the most significant contributions I make to Ubuntu daily, there's also a [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FabiánRodríguezDetail detailed list].
Recently started UbuntuInLibraries, CanadianPress, also helping create the ColombianTeam and QuebecTeam LoCos
- I've installed Ubuntu (Hoary) to my 60 yr.-old parents in Colombia, 1 support call since Aug. 2005, a very convincing use case
I estimate 60% of my consulting time is dedicated to Ubuntu professional training and consulting in Quebec province - as listed in [http://www.ubuntulinux.org/support/supportoptions/marketplace/northernamerica Marketplace - North America]
- I regularly relay Ubuntu news and usecases to my business contacts and to the most active and visible organizations involved in free software and free computing in Quebec province. I have strong links to the local community (see organizations below).
Over the past year I have created a CD-insert [http://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-ca/2005-November/000323.html in spanish] and [https://secure.fabianrodriguez.com/files/ubuntu-fr.odt french] to help promote Ubuntu through CDs - 900 copies estimated distribution, used by several LUGs in Europe and LatinAmerica.
Plans & vision for Ubuntu
I see Ubuntu becoming an essential tool to make Gnu/Linux more accessible to everyone, starting with my parents I feel it's a community that is open enough to let anyone participate to the extent of their abilities and availability.
As part of my professional but also personal activities, I plan on focusing on the following:
- Actively marketing and selling Ubuntu-related services locally:
- * Training
- * Servers install and support
- * Desktop migration and support
- Keeping the Ubuntu community open and friendly, following the code of conduct
Becoming a local liaison for local support & advocacy in Quebec province, but also in the rest of Canada and the Colombian community (I originally grew up there)
- Contributing and teaching other how to contribute through in tasks that will make the MOTU's work easier
