About Me
I'm Jackson, I'm 14, I live in Australia. I started using Ubuntu during 10.10. I have been an active member of the testing team since 12.10 alpha 3. I volunteer at CBNE in Armidale. I am have not yes signed the Ubuntu code of conduct.

My history in FOSS and Ubuntu (summary)
The Ubuntu family is the only FOSS project I contribute to. I join the Ubuntu Quality team (and as a result the Ubuntu community in general) just after the release of alpha 3 in 12.10. I have since found many bugs, made manual ISO testcases and run an Ubuntu-classroom session on the program testdrive. In February 2013 i was given a trial to be head of testing for Xubuntu because I was the only person who put their hand up for the position.
Patrik joined Ubuntu GNOME in November 2014 on LaunchpadHome:aldomann's invitation and is an active member since. As a graphic designer it was only natural to be invited to join the Marketing Team (formerly Artwork Team) to work on enhancing the desktop experience for users of Ubuntu GNOME.

I have run over 200 ISO testcases for Ubuntu.

My main goals within the FOSS community are: to become an Ubuntu member, become a developer for Ubuntu (Xubuntu specifically) and get a blog working for Planet Ubuntu.
Outside of the FOSS community my main goal is to finish high school and get a job in the I.T. industry.

Testdrive
I've been trying since i heard about it to improve testdrive, to me it is one of the most important programs in the testing community. I helped the push to get Virtualbox4.2 working in it (thanks to unit193 for the fix).

Xubuntu
I run Xubuntu on all of my PCs capable of it and have tried to help the development of it whenever possible, i've found many bugs and have helped in the writing of the magazine articles for the feature on Xubuntu in some random magazine, to be release in april, 2013.

The Main issue i've found in xubuntu is the fact it doesn't seem to get many new-to-linux users. Ubuntu gets the most advertising and the best touch support (the only UI usable with both keyboard and mouse or touchscreen in my opinion), Lubuntu gets many users because it looks the most like windows and because it has the best support for old hardware, and Kubuntu takes many existing Linux users because it's based on KDE and is difficult to use (my opinion, not a fact). Xubuntu also lacks wallpapers, a proper lock screen (being fixed currently) and a GUI proxy manager, which combined have hit the usability of the OS.

The only change i wish to see in the team is better advertising of Xubuntu, which would help hugely, especially in getting more Developers.
He's dedicated to continuous improvement in all areas of involvement and very passionate about everything he does. He's also a keen volunteer engaging in a number of projects to help and improve. In his spare time he works on Ubuntu GNOME; Smart Launcher is currently one of the most popular Android launcher applications on the market (he translates it to Slovak). He used to translate Mozilla Firefox when he had an abundant amount of time. Now he dedicates most of it to improve and hopefully earn a respectable living by doing what makes sense to him.

I strongly recommend him for an Ubuntu membership.

Ubuntu GNOME - Technical Lead
Line 38: Line 43:
I've had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with Jackson, as we are both contributors of the QA / Testing team. He is certainly hard-working and committed on his helping of this team. Jackson is a great contributor and person. As examples, he has held a classroom session and also chased up a bug in Test Drive along with being a dedicated tester. I believe he is worthy of Ubuntu membership and ask that you look favorably on his application. phill 8th April 2013 When Patrik joined the Marketing (formerly Artwork and Design) Team, he brought to the table a different perspective of our goals and design principles, which resulted in a major re-branding of the identity of Ubuntu GNOME. He takes things seriously and professionally, which is not always the case in this kind of volunteering projects. Working with Patrick is a joy, and he would surely make an excellent asset to any design team.
Line 40: Line 45:
I'm fondly surprised that two same-aged teenagers (me and Noskcaj) are joining the Ubuntu QA Team at the same time. Noskcaj is seriously a dedicated tester to Ubuntu, for example writing testcases for Xubuntu, catching up with Testdrive and doing classroom sessions. I received membership earlier than him, but I seriously think that he is better at me for getting membership if you only count QA contributions. I highly recommend him for Ubuntu membership. Ubuntu GNOME - Marketing Team Leader
Line 42: Line 48:
It's been wonderful watching Jackson learn about ubuntu and grow as a contributor and member of the ubuntu quality team. Since learning how to test an iso himself, he's gone on to help the team by instructing others and encouraging new folks via IRC and the mailing list to do the same. To this end, he has helped to ensure the Testdrive testing tool has remained an option for new folks -- helping to drive bugs and keep the tool up to date with each release. He's helped to ensure some of the lesser tested images are kept up to date with proper tests and test results. His attitude and skills are all wonderful representations of ubuntu. I look forward to seeing more good things from him. I would ask you to look favorably upon his application and welcome him into ubuntu as a full member. nskaggs 11th April 2013 I've been working with Patrik on the Marketing (formerly Artwork and Design) Team for the better part of a year. During this time I saw the evolution of the current branding for Ubuntu GNOME, which was executed in a very professional and passionate manner by him. He is self-taught, professional, dedicated, and has great attention to detail. He's also taking a lead in the social media efforts of the team, and is working hard on the design for our new website. I would strongly recommend him for an Ubuntu membership.
