Current Issues
- booting
- booting stalls
- boot option 'noapic' helps
might be related to kernel bugs 8195, 8186 and 7894; see also the discussion in http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/linux-laptops/75587-linux-hp-dv6000-amd-laptops.html
- hibernate (suspend to disk)
- kernel panics when trying to hibernate
- with the additional boot option 'nosmp' hibernate and resume works (that is, no symmetric multiprocessing in the dual core processor :-/ )
- sleep (suspend to RAM)
- machine hangs when trying to put to sleep
- with the additional boot option 'nosmp' the machine goes to sleep, the sleep light comes on, it wakes up on a key press, but the screen is just blank and the keyboard is not working (for example caps lock and num lock)
- error messages in dmesg
- PCI: BIOS BUG #81[49435000] found
PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:20000@e0000000 for 0000:05:00.0 (similar to bug 54294 in launchpad)

Notes
The testing was done with the i386 desktop image (live CD) of each release.
7.04 Feisty
- Installation: additional boot option 'noapic' (+ corresponding change in /boot/grub/menu.lst)
- Hibernate: works if adding boot option 'nosmp', otherwise the kernel panics when trying to hibernate
- Sleep: with the additonal 'nosmp' boot option, the machine goes to sleep, the sleep light comes on, it wakes up on a key press, but the screen is just blank and the keyboard is not working (for example caps lock and num lock)
Wireless NIC: the Broadcom 4312 card is partly working with the linux driver after extracting the firmware with bcm43xx-fwcutter (WEP working, but it's slow, WPA not working), see also https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx
sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter
- Infrared: only working with the laptop's remote control (same as in MS Windows)
- 3D acceleration: only with the restricted nvidia driver
