(*) Notes and recipes
Graphic acceleration
Gutsy: 3D has bugs due Intel X3100 driver (opengl z buffer error / crashes) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/120834.
Compiz/Beryl
Gutsy: Desktop effects doesn't work out of the box (blacklisted driver due lacking Xv support).
Audio
Gutsy: Sound doesn't work by default.
Videocamera
Gutsy: Webcam does work but the 'video4linux 2' drivers aren't supported in much applications (yet).
Wireless NIC
Automatically offered driver doesn't run well.
- With Synaptic, install the package "build-essential"
Check if Ubuntu has already detected and enabled the Atheros drivers that come with repositories, with the tool for restricted hardware drivers (jockey). Disable all elements related with Atheros.
Download a different MadWifi package from http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-current.tar.gz
With a console, move to the directory where have downloaded the new MadWifi package
sudo tar -xzvf madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-current.tar.gz
cd madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-current/
sudo make
Install the new specific driver: sudo make install
- Restart the computer.
Open again the restricted drivers manager (jockey) and enable only the wireless support for Atheros. Leave "Atheros Hardware Access Layer - HAL" disabled.
Note: The task to download the MadWifi package does not work while there is no such file on internet.
Toucpad
* By default the pointer moves very slow.
