10.04.2

The following is a brief summary of bugs fixed between Ubuntu 10.04.1 and 10.04.2. This summary covers only changes to packages in main and restricted, which account for all packages in the officially-supported CD images; there are further changes to various packages in universe and multiverse. Some of these fixes were by Ubuntu developers directly, while others were by upstream developers and backported to Ubuntu. For full details, see the individual package changelogs.

In addition to the bugs listed below, this update includes all security updates from the Ubuntu Security Notice list affecting Ubuntu 10.04 LTS that were released up to and including Feb 7, 2011. The last update included was USN-1059-1 (Dovecot).

To understand the changes made between Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.04.1 please see the 10.04.1 change summary.

Known Issues

If you are trying to create an installation CD or USB for a 10.04 based release from a 10.10 or later system, you may run into 645818. The workaround is documented in the report. Typing 'live' or 'help' (without the quotes) at the boot: prompt allow the user to proceed with the installation.

On some specific hardware systems, oem-config fails to start after reboot. Current status and workarounds for some releases, can be found in 650703.

Description

casper

557023 591207

More fixes to the USB update-initramfs shim (thanks, Evan Dandrea; LP: #557023, #591207):

djvulibre

462193

hardwire globbing in install files. LP: #462193

grub-installer

603854

Install GRUB to the SATA RAID or multipath device when /boot is on such a device, rather than installing to the first hard disk (LP: #603854).

grub2

591202

If we're upgrading and /boot/grub/core.img doesn't exist, then don't ask where to install GRUB, since it probably means we're in some kind of specialised environment such as a live USB stick (LP: #591202).

grub2

591202

Drop the default priority of grub2/linux_cmdline to medium. We only need to ask it if we're upgrading from GRUB Legacy and found an empty kopt in menu.lst (LP: #591202).

grub2

671097

in update-grub, explicitly ignore kernels ending in -ec2 (LP: #671097)

grub2

581760

On Wubi, don't ask for an install device, but just update wubildr using the diverted grub-install (LP: #581760).

debian-installer

607657

Fix amd64 builds to actually include the lts-backport-maverick kernel on maverick-* images (LP: #607657).

debian-installer

607657

Build images with the lts-backport-maverick kernel (2.6.35-23) for amd64 and i386, which are themselves configured to install the lts-backport-maverick kernel (LP: #607657).

debian-installer

667187

Rebuild against current 2.6.32-25 kernels; there seems to have been a hidden ABI change that broke installer images (LP: #667187).

plymouth

563916

src/plugins/splash/details/plugin.c: Implement display_message, either by displaying it immediately or by queueing it for later display in the event that we're already waiting for user input (LP: #563916).

plymouth

649917

Generate a dummy NSS stack in the initrd to suppress a glib warning generated by the label control (LP: #649917).

rsyslog

570103

Patch the upstart job to source /etc/default/rsyslog as the old init script used to. (LP: #570103)

upstart

672177

Re-add upstream r977 to allow proper re-exec on shutdown (LP: #672177)

usb-creator

608382

Mangle whether the 'ui' keyword is in syslinux.cfg based on the OS version. (LP: #608382)

virtinst

655392

debian/patches/9003-libvirt_disk_format.patch: update to allow setting the driver type with --disk format= (LP: #655392)

Upgrade Bug Fixes

These changes fix upgrade issues, smoothing the way for future upgrades to later releases of Ubuntu.

eglibc

672177

do not run 'telinit u' on upgrade, as this will break upstart. touch /var/run/init.upgraded instead, which will force a re-exec just before remounting root read-only. LP: #672177, LP: #694772.

eglibc

694772

do not run 'telinit u' on upgrade, as this will break upstart. touch /var/run/init.upgraded instead, which will force a re-exec just before remounting root read-only. LP: #672177, LP: #694772.

Fix detection of reblanked DVD+RW and DVD-RAM. Once formatted, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM discs are always reported "complete" by t drive. Check the if the Volume Descriptor or Volume Descriptor Anchor sector are empty, and if so, set the status to blank. (Regression from Ubuntu 9.10) (LP: #581925)

udev

cdrom_id: Handle pre-MMC2 drives which do not yet support the 0x46 "GET CONFIGURATION" SCSI command. If we have those, fall back to the 0x51 "READ DISC INFORMATION" call. This can only differentiate between CD-RW and CD-R, but first that's better than a complet detection failure, and second, those old drives likely don't support more modern media in the first place. (LP: #502143)

udev

653568

Fall back to CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS if all MMC commands fail. Reportedly, some fake USB CD sticks like the IronKey neither support the SCSI "GET CONFIGURATION" nor the older (pre-MMC2) "READ DISC INFORMATION" command. In that case, check if cd_media_compat() detected that there is a disc present, and assume that we have a CD-ROM medium. (Regression from Ubuntu 9.10). (LP: #653568)

Package

Fix --no-add-needed with weak symbols (Kirill Smelkov). LP: #619878.

consolekit

544139

10-retry_console_open_eio.patch: Retry console opens if they return EIO, since this may happen while a tty is closing (see LP #554172, and thanks to Lennie and others for extensive debugging work; LP: #544139).

Fix "Bad file descriptor" message from cp & touch (ensure that futimens is only called with a valid file descriptor). LP: #552816.

debootstrap

673038

Add (Ubuntu) natty as a symlink to gutsy. LP: #673038

debootstrap

533369

icoutils

622220

Lucid backport, for proper Wine 1.2 support (LP: #622220)

icoutils

622220 643085

Supports vista icons (LP: #622220, #643085)

icoutils

614918

Performance improvements (LP: #614918)

icoutils

643460

Other fixes (LP: #643460)

mountall

649591

Fix infinite loop when one of mountall's private mount options is followed by a comma, and guard against other reasons why cut_options might end up comparing a zero-length option (LP: #649591).

mountall

569365

conf/mountall.conf: set $LANG so that messages appearing in plymouth are translated (LP: #569365); this is a temporary workaround until upstart is fixed to pass the appropriate env vars to all init scripts

nfs-utils

525154

debian/nfs-common.statd.upstart, debian/nfs-common.statd-mounting.upstart: refactor startup to wait for local-filesystems. (LP: #525154)

openssl

590639

portmap

525154

debian/upstart renamed to debian/portmap.portmap.upstart, debian/portmap.portmap-boot.upstart, debian/rules: Added to set special ON_BOOT flag during boot, which allows statd to use an AND with 'started portmap ON_BOOT=y'. This version of portmap is a dependency of nfs-utils to fix LP: #525154

tftp-hpa

683955

debian/patches/02-socket.patch: Backport upstream patch to fix syslog bug when rotating log files. (LP: #683955)

ureadahead

491943

Count the number of CPUs and divide buffer_size_kb by the number of CPUs. Users should watch for instances of "mmiotrace has lost events" in dmesg to make sure the trace buffers are not too small. The original value for buffer_size_kb was chosen somewhat arbitrarily. Empirical testing has shown that its large enough, so we don't actually know where the lower boundary lies. LP: #491943
