Clear message

Any similarity between my page, JeffreyElkner's page, and MatthewGallagher's page is because they copied mine and used it as a template.

Other Stuff

Programming

I've been doing Java for a couple of years now, and started studying C last year. I've worked with Python and Javascript a little too.

School

I'm a freshman at GWU in Washington, DC. I'm double-majoring in International Affairs and Computer Science with a minor in Japanese. If anyone who happens to be reading this is from GW or somewhere in DC, say hi.

Ubuntu Stuff

I jumped on the Ubuntu boat just after Dapper came out. It's my main OS now both at school and at home. I now have a blog (link at top) where I post about developments in Feisty, new things I come across, and howtos/hints for problems I encounter.

Help

I can usually be found in the Absolute Beginner Section of the ubuntuforums.org answering questions, chatting in Community Cafe, or modding the NU Ubuntu Team section of the forums. I sometimes answer questions on IRC, but I think I ask more there than I answer (EDIT: not anymore, I'm apparently able to answer questions now). Forum members have IM'ed me before too. My screen name is at the top of the page. Feel free.

Spreading

Well, so far my mom and my siblings use Ubuntu at home. A former RedHat-user in my Japanese class switched after he saw my computer, and another girl in the class (his girlfriend) soon followed suit. I've started giving out Ubuntu Live CDs, and a few of my friends from high school have requested that I set it up for them when I'm in town. A few of my cousins are now looking at Ubuntu too. I've started making and labeling copies of the Open CD to give out to Windows users whose computers I repair, since while some people may not be willing to switch OS's (but I need AutoCAD), they probably don't mind freebies. I also installed Edubuntu on a dozen older computers which were then donated to the School Without Walls in Washington, DC for a computer lab.

Community Involvement

I'm a member of DCLUG, LinuxChix DC chapter, and the Ubuntu DC, Pittsburgh (home), and Pennsylvania LoCo Teams. I'm a moderator on the NU (Northeast US) Ubuntu part of ubuntuforums and an admin for the NU team on Launchpad. I've assisted NicholasWheeler with evangelizing Edubuntu. I'm also now helping KevinCole and another Ubuntu user from DC with getting "open source for beginners" classes going. We had our first one today (6 Sep 2007), and are working on getting more "newbies" to show up and more interesting/helpful topics we can teach (ex: the Gimp for Photoshop users).

My PPA

Add {{{deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/maco.m/ubuntu gutsy main restricted universe multiverse deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/maco.m/ubuntu gutsy main restricted universe multiverse}}} to your /etc/apt/sources.list and then sudo apt-get update Currently, my PPA only has the "fusion-icon" package for Compiz Fusion.
