Main Inclusion Report for Rasmol

Rasmol is a commonly used molecular visualization program used by chemists and molecular biologists.

Requirements

1. Availability: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/r/rasmol and is available for all supported architectures.

2. Rationale:

   • Common application in for teaching chemistry and biochemistry

   • Part of edubuntu-on-two-cds

3. Security:

   • CVE entries: None

   • Secunia history: None

   • No suid/sgid, daemons, or network activity. Just a generic user app

4. Quality assurance:

   • Rasmol doesn't need any configuration or debconf. It just works.

   • Debian bugs: only 1 bug (normal) open

   • Maintenance in Debian is fairly light. The package doesn't change very much.

   • Upstream is pretty calm. The app has more or less stayed the same for a long time but it is maintained with bug fixes and minor feature enhancements.

   • There is no upstream bug tracker.

5. Standards compliance:

   • Rasmol appears to be FHS, and Debian Policy compliant.

   • Packaging uses debhelper with no patch system (two minor changes are done in .diff.gz)
