About Me

I'm a software architect living in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I've been using Linux on and off for about 10 years. My first attempt was in college with Red Hat 4.2. Since then, I've installed and used Slackware, Gentoo, Debian, tried a couple of the BSDs (FreeBSD and OpenBSD), as well as Solaris on x86. As of recent, I've been using Ubuntu full-time since Breezy.

I am an Ubuntu member.

I was officially the second person to join up with the Georgia US Team and helped it grow and make it an approved LoCo.

I split my time mainly between the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter and LoCo Council. Communication is key for a large community like Ubuntu and the UWN provides an excellent avenue for keeping everyone abreast of what is happening in various projects. The LoCo Council is a great place to not only recognize the continuing hard work teams do to promote and support Ubuntu, but also to help teams grow and expand their reach within the respective locales.

I have been an active member of various IRC channels for two years. At UDS-Prague, I attended the session related to IRC and saw the great passion and energy ops and users felt in improving the environment. While I have no experience as an IRC op, I can provide the IRC Council with a fresh perspective since I won't bring in any preconceived notions or history of old conflicts.

With IRC being the backbone of the Ubuntu community, it is imperative that IRC channels work as smoothly as possible. I can help it continue being a great communication platform and make it a better medium for all users and ops.

Support for IRC Council

  • AlanPope: Nick is an impartial, conscientious and thoughtful individual. He's a pleasure to work with and is a positive influence on the Ubuntu project.

  • StephenStalcup: I love Nick! I first met Nick while he was trying to get the Georgia (US), and he has really grown leaps and bounds since that meeting. He single handedly resurrected the UWN, got the Ubuntu Georgia Team rolling and approved, along with countless other things. As a member of the Ubuntu Community and freenode community, I fully support Nick.

  • CodySomerville: Nick is a versatile team player with a keen ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities. As the current Chief Editor of the UWN, he has demonstrated he is able to readily identify more efficient ways of getting er' done and isn't afraid to embrace change. From my experience working with Nick, he is an individual who consistently demonstrates candor and an effective sense of humor which I feel makes him stand out from his peers as an individual with a knack for summarizing and communicating; a true cultivator of consensus and openness. As no stranger to effective dispute resolution nor the workings of IRC, Nick would make an excellent candidate for the IRC Council.
