My relationship with Ubuntu

Discovering Ubuntu and the free world

I first used Ubuntu in October 2010 when 10.10 was released. I discovered it by accident as I was surfing the Web. It piqued my interest as a different operating system and I never had seen before any free operating system. Until then I was clearly only a Windows user. I had never read before about open source and free software. Then Ubuntu booted for first time on my PC. Outstanding . Stable - Fast, no need for external device drivers, everything worked out of the box!

Currently I'm working in several projects focused more on our local Ubuntu(GR) team. Since Nov 2012 I'm an Official Ubuntu Member and I'm trying to keep my contribution in Ubuntu Community significant and sustained.

I will continue using, testing and advocating Ubuntu and contributing in any way I can to spread FOSS and make it qualitative.

The Ubuntu Promise

The Ubuntu Promise

Ubuntu is free. Always has been and always will be. From the operating system to security updates, storage to software. Ubuntu is fast to load, easy to use, available in most languages and accessible to all. Ubuntu applications are all free and open source – so you can share them with anyone you like, as often as you like. Ubuntu comes with full support and all kinds of services available worldwide.

My Promise

I will continue contributing to the Ubuntu Community. From helping others on their first steps and searching for solutions to their problems up to promoting FOSS in any way I can. I will continue giving assistance mainly at:

  • My name is George Christofis, LoCo contact of Ubuntu Greece. NikTh known as “Learner” in ubuntu-gr forum, is an active member with contributing spirit on Ubuntu and the community. He is a very good moderator in ubuntu-gr forum, he is patient and polite to everyone, especially when he hepls new Ubuntu users. He deals with member's problems such as the problems affects him, trying to find the solution. Also his contribution in translation projects is very important and useful for the Greek language. ~geochr

  • I am Filippos Kolyvas (aka fkol k4), member of the Greek Ubuntu community and of the Ubuntu Greek Translators team.Being a member of the Greek Ubuntu community for more than 1.5 year, has given me the opportunity to get to know some remarkable people. Without a single doubt, i can say that NikTh is one of the most remarkable.I find it very impressive that he spends such a vast amount of his time per day contributing in every way possibly imaginable, either guiding new and inexperienced members through their problems or even simple questions in many different places, either performing moderation tasks on the almost 10000 member Ubuntu-gr forum, or even contributing to the Greek translation of Ubuntu. All that, being always polite and patient, and respecting the Ubuntu code of conduct.I think that NikTh would be a valuable addition to the Ubuntu community as an Ubuntu member.

  • My name is Elias and I am a member of the Ubuntu Greek community since December of 2011. From day one, NikTh was one of the first members that I noticed because of his activity.I am extremely impressed by NikTh and his vast contribution to the community, which among other things, includes motivating people to use Ubuntu, guiding users that are new to the world of Linux and offering remarkable and effective help to everyone in need, by spending a great amount of time and energy to find solutions to their problems. His contribution as an answer tracker at launchpad is very impressive as well.In addition, he is very polite, patient and always eager to help in any way possible. The Ubuntu Greek community members recognized his great contribution to the community, which can only be described by the very meaning of the word "Ubuntu", by voting him to be a Global Moderator of the Ubuntu-gr Forum.NikTh is one of the few people that inspired me to get involved with Ubuntu and FOSS and I strongly believe he would make an excellent addition to the community as an Ubuntu Member.~eliasps
