I first became interested in Linux in 2000 when I saw RedHat, Mandrake and may be other distributions being sold as cheap box sets in on of my local bookshops. Unfortunately I never managed to get anything working satisfactorily so I soon gave up and returned to Windows until last year, 2010. My father who had taken up an interest in computing upon his retirement told me he was playing with Ubuntu Linux and I soon found that I could get it working on my ageing PC. || {{https://launchpad.net/@@/person}} Name || Paul White ||

About Me

I first became interested in Linux in 2000 when I saw RedHat, Mandrake and several other distributions being sold as cheap box sets in one of my local bookshops. Unfortunately, I never managed to get any distribution working properly so I gave up and returned to Windows.

At the beginning of 2010, my father, who had taken up an interest in computing upon his retirement, told me that he was using Ubuntu Linux and shortly after I installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on an old Dell PC which I had purchased in 2005. Although upgraded, this PC saw regular use until just before the release of Precise Pangolin when it was reluctantly retired from service.

I started beta testing with the Ubuntu 10.10 release code-named Maverick Meerkat followed by Ubuntu 11.04, Natty Narwhal and have been involved in the testing and reporting of bugs of each release since then. Towards the end of the development cycle of Natty Narwhal I switched from using Ubuntu to Kubuntu on my desktop PC although I still have Ubuntu installed on my laptop and Lubuntu on my netbook.

From the start of the development cycle of Quantal Quetzal I plan to always have a copy of the current development release available to monitor progress and changes although I will no longer be involved in the testing and reporting of bugs to the extent that I used to be.

I am currently using Kubuntu 12.10, Lubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 12.04. I am currently testing Kubuntu 13.04.

Other Information

I am also a licensed amateur radio operator, call-sign G4MBY, formerly G6AVH although currently inactive. I am looking at ways to combine my interest in amateur radio with that of Ubuntu and Kubuntu.
