Getting involved

If you want to apply as mentee:

Example of a good application:

Hello,

my name is Foo Bar (I'm also known as foobar on #ubuntu-motu).

I'm 22 years old and I live in country (but my mother-language is italian).
I'd like to apply for the foobar team (LP: ~foo-bar).

I'm a 3rd year Computer Science student, I have a good knowledge of C and a basic knowledge of Python and C++.
I'm particularly interested in everything Desktop related, especially graphical window management.
I'm also very keen in VectorGraphic and Virtualisation.
I have been using Ubuntu since date and have been using Linux since date.
Software I use everyday:
Software I actively contribute on:
Software I wrote and look forward packaging:

I have been working on the following Ubuntu bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bar/+bug/789012
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pippo/+bug/102030

Example of a bad application:

Hi,

I'm looking forward meeting a Mentor, that can help me to
become a better Ubuntu contributor.

Thanks in advance.

In the meanwhile a mentor will send you a confirmation e-mail, please note that we will assign a mentor with a different nationality than you. In the meanwhile, You can start reading the team documentation:

Once you have received the confirmation e-mail follow the mentor's instructions. What 'don't' needs to be done:

  • Ask help to the mentor in private, never or rarely ask the help in private. The mentors aren't perfect so please, always ask in #ubuntu-motu.

  • Think that a mentor is a robot. We aren't bot or something, we're human like you.
  • Ask the change of the mentor. We can't change the mentor once it's assigned so please, be comprehensive.

If you want to apply as mentor:

  • Read and sign the Ubuntu Code of Conduct.

  • Keep a clear vision of our team and the members.
  • Subscribe to our mailing list (working in progress!).
  • Send us an e-mail (working in progress!).
  • Be part of bug squad.

  • Be part of bug control

  • Set up a wiki page with your contributions.
  • Please keep in mind we look your contributions over the 6 months.

My name is FooBar and I'm involved in some projects. I'd like to apply for the mentoring reception membership and make my contributions to ubuntu better.

Once you have applied for it, please wait the next mentoring reception meeting and we will talk about you!
