Kicking Off The Ubuntu Advocacy Developer Kit & Ubuntu Advocacy Development Kit Packaged
Jono Bacon continues his series of posts about the Ubuntu Advocacy Developer Kit for Ubuntu advocates and other people willing to spread the word about Ubuntu. Bacon reminds us what the ADK will consist of:
Well written, simple, and detailed documentation for joining, creating, and running LoCo Teams, as well as general advocacy, tips, and tricks.
- A selection of high-quality posters, banners and other materials.
- Resources for creating new materials.
- Presentations that can be used for giving an Ubuntu demo / Charm School etc.
Once installed via a PPA, the project can be reached through the Dash. Volunteers are invited to make contributions in order to improve the ADK.

James Hunt: Upstart with "stateful re-exec" now in Ubuntu Raring
Upstart with “stateful re-exec” is now version 1.6.1 in Ubuntu Raring. James Hunt gives detailed information about what the new version of Upstart brings, including: “for all future Upstart upgrades, no reboot is required to make use of the newly-installed version, Upstart will restart itself with no interruption to service such that existing jobs will continue to run”, and many others.

Elizabeth Krumbach reflects on the past six years of the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter. The first issue was published in June 2006, and in that period the newsletter has covered Ubuntu as it has grown into what it is today. She also expresses her excitement about the newsletter team, and encourages more people to help out, especially with summary writing.

Michael Hall: Quickly: Reborn
Michael Hall reports about progress made with Quickly, Ubuntu’s application development tool which includes: port from Python 2 to Python 3, added built-in argument handling, added bash shell completion, added help command (that works with all other commands), supporting of templates installed in any XDG_DATA_DIRS, allowing template overriding on the command-line and many others. Hall calls for volunteers to help with command porting. Hall also gives detailed instructions about how to contribute, along with list of commands that are about to be ported.

Pasi Lallinaho: Community-to-developer communication
Pasi Lallinaho writes about what he believes everyone should consider when communicating with developers. When putting forth ideas and brainstorming, the community should propose a goal, explain it, give reasons and arguments for the goal, give comparisons, and also provide suggestions for reaching the goal. He also discusses listening to developers’ feedback, positively adding to the discussion, and being objective about decisions.

Jono Bacon: Ubuntu Accomplishments 13.04 Update
Jono Bacon unveils further plans regarding Ubuntu Accomplishments, which include:
- Deploying the validation server on Canonical hardware and managed by the IS team.
- Deploying the web gallery to trophies.ubuntu.com.
- Updating the client to support publishing to trophies.ubuntu.com (publishing is notswitched on by default and has to be enabled).
- Packaging and releasing the daemon and viewer in the Ubuntu Software Center.
- Performing a round of QA and testing to ensure the quality of the release is high.
Along with mentioned plan, Bacon reports about the current state of Ubuntu accomplishments, and calls for volunteers for the following areas: hacking, documentation, testing, translations, creating Accomplishments and support.

Happier Holidays with the Ubuntu One photos update
The Ubuntu One team announces its newest feature, a dedicated photos tab in the U1 dashboard that gives users an album view of uploaded photos. All a user's pictures are available in one place, and can easily be shared with friends and family. To celebrate the new feature, users who upload pictures of their holiday decorations and share them using the hastag #UbuntuOne will be in the running to win one of twenty 5GB extra storage packages.

New Dash Icons Proposed for Ubuntu 13.04
Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! brings us an update considering Matthieu James’ icon design, including “rounder icons for ‘Home’, ‘Files’, ‘Photos’ and ‘Video’ lenses.” Sneddon also comments on changes to Gwibber, and asks readers to comment on the mentioned improvements - with a warning that these improvements are not final.

Steam Linux to Launch Open Beta Next Week
Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! brings us an unofficial announcement from Valve: “The Open Beta will be available to the public and will increase the current population from 80K to a higher number.” Along with this unofficial news Sneddon points out the system requirements for gaming and the first round of games which will be available on Steam client for Linux.

Canonical adds photo functions to Ubuntu One
fab of H-Online unveils new features on Ubuntu One, namely photo functions. “After users log in, the Ubuntu One web site now automatically displays thumbnails of all photos found in their cloud storage in a new "Photos" section.” That is not the only functionality that comes with this new feature.

Onboard 0.99 ALPHA landed in Ubuntu 13.04 with docking support, Nexus 7-related enhancements and numerous fixes
“Onboard is a handy useful virtual keyboard (installed in Ubuntu by default), allowing users to enjoy a full virtual keyboard on the desktop.” Razvi of iloveubuntu.net informs us about Onboard’s improvements and bug fixes such as optimization aimed at Nexus 7, docking support, sliding effect and many others.
