Canonical sta cercando qualcuno con ottime capacità di disegno UI. Non è necessario avere esperienza Linux. Nuovo Marketing Team di Xubuntu

In un recente incontro degli sviluppatori Xubuntu, Freddy Martinez è stato nominato a capo del team Xubuntu Marketing. Si comincerà costruendo una solida comunità a sostegno del marketing di Xubuntu e aggiornando il sito web per adeguarsi alla nuova piattaforma Drupal usata da Ubuntu. UWN ha bisogno di te! Noi della UWN vorremmo scrivere molto di più su quello che il tuo LoCo team sta facendo, purtroppo non possiamo farlo se non ci viene detto a cosa si sta lavorando. Manda una e-mail ai loco-contacts o alla lista ubuntu-marketing, trova qualuno sul canale #ubuntu-marketing su IRC per farlo aggiungere, oppure aggiungilo tu.

Novità in Feisty Fawn

Data la vicinanza del rilascio di Feisty e l'uscita della versione Beta la scorsa settimana, non ci sono stati molti cambiamenti in Feisty questa settimana, l'unica novità è in OpenOffice.org 2.2, che include un nuovo tema Human. Per chi non lo sapesse, Human è il tema di default di Ubuntu.

Situazione Bug in Feisty

Tollef Fog Heen, Ubuntu Release Manager, ha postato recentemente una lista di bug che devono essere sistemati prima del rilascio. Al momento dell'uscita, l'annuncio non è ancora disponibile, ma la lista dei bug è alla pagina https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+milestone/ubuntu-7.04

Segnalazione Automatica dei Crash nel Rilascio Definitivo

C'è stata un'animata discussione la settimana scorsa su come gestire il nuovo software di segnalazione bug e crash in Feisty, chiamato apport. (Apport esiste già nelle versioni precedenti di Ubuntu, ma questa è la prima volta in cui la parte di crash reporting sarà pienamente disponibile). Anche se una decisione finale non è stata ancora presa, Martin Pitt ha sollevato la questione della gestione dei crash, a causa di problemi di scalabilità, privacy e la capacità di sistemare l'oggetto crashato. Chiamata per il Testing di HPLIP 1.7.3

Till Kamppeter, maintainer di tutte le cose riguardanti la stampa in Ubuntu, sta cercando di aggiungere l'ultimo HPLIP, il driver per le stampanti multifunzione HP, a Feisty. In ogni caso ha bisogno di tester per la versione 1.7.3 per essere certo che funzioni ancora. Politica Informale sui Bug nei Pacchetti Binari

In risposta ad una domanda della comunità riguardante i bug nei pacchetti binari, ad es. i driver Nvidia/ATI, Matt Zimmerman ha detto, "Ci prendiamo la responsabilità per bug del kernel per i quali non crediamo la colpa sia da dare ai driver binari, e collaboreremo con i produttori di hardware per condividere le informazioni sui bug. Quello che non possiamo fare invece è prenderci la responsabilità di analizzare o sistemare bug dovuti ai driver binari."

Nuova Modalità di Richiesta di Packaging di un'Applicazione

A seguito dell'ultimo incontro MOTU, si è deciso di sostituire la pagina http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UniverseCandidates. Seguendo la tradizione di Debian, le richieste di packaging dovranno essere archiviate come bug. Change in Freeze Exception Procedures

Tollef Fog Heen, Ubuntu release manager, has announced a change in the way maintainers ask for freeze exceptions for their packages. With the new procedure, a bug against the relevant package should now be filed with the ubuntu-release team subscribed to the bug. However, if the request is urgent, contacting the release team directly via IRC or email is still acceptable.

OmniNerd has a 2006 Operating System Vulnerability Summary which discusses security issues of many popular OSs including Vista Ultimate, OS X, and Ubuntu. The report concluded that out of the box, Windows and OS X are remotely vulnerable without diligence: "owners of Windows and OS X systems are the most susceptible to quick and thorough remote violations by hackers." Ubuntu Easy-to-install Codec Wizards

The upcoming Feisty release will include a new guided wizard for installing codecs not shipped with Ubuntu. It gives users a safe way of installing codecs they can legally use to view multimedia content. When a user tries to view a video without having the appropriate codecs, the application will suggest installing the correct codecs. If the appropriate repositories are not active, the wizard will set them up, then auto-detect and install the needed packages. The video will start playing without the need to restart the application. This wizard will prevent the need for users to follow complex instructions on installing codecs and using unknown repositories.
