The New Era: From Approval To Verification

José Antonio Rey writes that the LoCo Council has a new look as it has new members and takes the opportunity to recap what the LoCo council does and does not do for the community. José lists the council's main roles, informs us that each of the council members will contact all active local community groups over the next few weeks and says "Let us grow together as we move ever onward!"

Jhosman Lizarazo: Bogotá gives copies of #Ubuntu 13.10 #Saucy Salamander

Jhosman Lizarazo writes that as part of ICT Month in Bogotá and with the support of the local mayor, copies of Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander were distributed to those that cannot make their own copies.

LoCo Logo Contest!

Pablo Rubianes appeals for designs of new logos for the LoCo Teams and the LoCo Council as the current logos are quite old. Pablo advises that there a couple of rules to follow and that the deadline for proposed designs is 25th November.

Jack explains that apart from the bug fixes and updates, there are ten reasons to update to the latest version, and they include Smart Scopes, Compiz performance improvements, LibreOffice 4.12 and easier server connection with Nautilus.

Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr opens for development

Saurav Modak writes that shortly after Ubuntu 13.10 was released, Canonical's developers began work on the next long term release of Ubuntu which is codenamed Trusty Tahr. Saurav advises that new packages are getting pulled from Debian repositories (Ubuntu’s upstream) and links to a web page from where the daily builds of Ubuntu 14.04 can be downloaded.

What The Press Are Saying About Ubuntu 13.10

Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! writes that the press reaction towards the latest release of Ubuntu can be described as muted as was 13.10 not the most exciting release of the year but the it coincided with the release of Windows 8.1. Joey-Elijah quotes from several websites and publications that did give some space to the release and asks for further comments from his readers.

Ubuntu 13.10 Review – Feels like LTS Spirit

Silviu Stahie takes an objective look at Ubuntu 13.10, in particular, Unity 7, privacy and Ubuntu One. Silviu wonders why all repositories are not enabled by default, touches on Mir and Unity 8, and concludes "With all these very conservative decisions surrounding the release of Ubuntu 13.10, the operating system feels like an LTS."
